Tyler Skaggs (SP, Los Angeles Angels) – It seems Skaggs returned too soon. He is likely out until early-September at this point.

Mike Trout (OF, Los Angeles Angels) – Trout hit the DL though he is expected to return when first eligible.

Adalberto Mejia (SP, Minnesota Twins) – Mejia hit the DL with a wrist sprain and a concurrent nerve traction issue. His 2018 season may be over but he is due to be reevaluated on Monday – we should know for sure if his season is over after that evaluation.

Anibal Sanchez (SP, Atlanta Braves) – Sanchez is expected to make his next scheduled start.

Mark Trumbo (DH, Baltimore Orioles) – Trumbo may require another injection for his ailing knee, which would keep him out for an extra day or two. At the moment I DL stint doesn’t appear likely.

Andrew Benintendi (OF, Boston Red Sox) – Benintendi sat out on Sunday due to fatigue symptoms. He should be good to go for Tuesday.

Xander Bogaerts (SS, Boston Red Sox) – X-rays came back negative, though I anticipate a precautionary MRI. Bogaerts may be able to return as soon as Tuesday depending on the severity of the injury though left-hand little finger injury for a right-handed batter may have a direct effect on his batting line should symptoms linger.

Edwin Encarnacion (DH, Cleveland Indians) – EE hit the DL10 with what is being called a right-hand contusion though he also underwent an MRI on his left biceps (which has been causing him discomfort). He is eligible to return as soon as 8-21-18 which is reasonable if he merely dealing with the hand contusion. If there is a larger issue – some degree of strain to that left biceps – this may be a longer absence.

Trevor Bauer (SP, Cleveland Indians) – Bauer is expected to make his next scheduled start.

Nolan Arenado (3B, Colorado Rockies) – Arenado has been battling some right shoulder discomfort for a few weeks. He may be able to return in the first half of this week as a DH when the Rockies head to Houston.

JaCoby Jones (OF, Detroit Tigers) – A DL stint seems likely here, though I hesitate to list his hamstring injury as a strain prior to MRI results being public. A mild strain would likely have Jones out until the start of September.

Nick Castellanos (OF, Detroit Tigers) – Castellanos is dealing with a foot contusion which doesn’t appear to be a major concern. He should return to the lineup during the first half of this week.

Jake Marisnick (OF, Houston Astros) – Marisnick hit the DL with a groin strain and will likely be out until earl-September.

Danny Duffy (SP, Kansas City Royals) – Ned Yost reported that Duffy has been battling shoulder tendinitis for his last four starts. If that is accurate Duffy should be shut down and likely for a majority of the remainder of 2018. Duffy underwent an anti-inflammatory injection and Yost expects him to make his next start but this feels like a DL stint is warranted and necessary.

Kenley Jansen (RP, Los Angeles Dodgers) – Jansen hit the DL with an undisclosed heart condition described as an irregular heartbeat. Jansen has experienced heart difficulties before and received an operation to correct a heart issue in 2012. Jansen is expected to recover without complication, though he is not due for reevaluation until 8-20-18 so he isn’t expected to return prior to that appointment.

Andrelton Simmons (SS, Los Angeles Angels) – Simmons is dealing with some knee soreness. He should be able to return to play in the first half of this week.

Kyle Barraclough (RP, Miami Marlins) – Barraclough may face a minimum stint, though back injuries tend to linger for pitchers. Barraclough may benefit from a rehab assignment as well as he has struggled recently.

Logan Morrison (1B, Minnesota Twins) – LoMo is set to undergo a surgery on his left hip and will miss the remainder of the 2018 season.

Joakim Soria (RP, Milwaukee Brewers) – Soria is likely to miss the remainder of August.

Luke Weaver (SP, St. Louis Cardinals) – Weaver was scratched from his Sunday start due to a laceration on his right index finger. He should recover in time to take the ball in the latter half of this week.

Yairo Munoz (SS, St. Louis Cardinals) – Munoz is dealing with a sprained wrist and may not return until September.

John Brebbia (RP, St. Louis Cardinals) – Limited information is available, but Brebbia’s 2018 season may be over.

Yangervis Solarte (3B, Toronto Blue Jays) – Solarte is likely out until early-September.

Ryan Madson (RP, Washington Nationals) – Madson is dealing with discomfort which sounds like a sciatic nerve issue. I suspect he will be evaluated further and a DL stint is a possibility.

Anthony Rendon (3B, Washington Nationals) – Rendon was able to be a defensive substitution on Sunday and should be able to return to the lineup during the first half of this week.

Lot of positive reports coming out about Eduardo Rodriguez being ahead of schedule yet the date above is being pushed further into September. What are you hearing?

    • Avatar Jeff Davis says:

      Hi Fletch

I have read those same reports and I am liking what I hear. I moved ERod’s expected return up about a week as a result (comparable to the last Injury Report).

He may continue to trend in a positive direction, though the time for a rehab assignment will still need to be factored in.

In addition to “Additions”, would you consider adding a section called “Coming Subtractions” that gives a summary of names coming back into play in short order? Organizing the chart by return date gets confusing, and I think a lot of people would love a high-level look at the names they might be able to pluck off the waiver wire before anyone else (if said DL guy was dropped).

    • Avatar Jeff Davis says:

      Hi OG,

I like that idea – I think I could incorporate it in some way. I totally agree that the chart can be confusing at times which I feel is just due to the sheer number of individuals included. Due to real life circumstances, I may not have to opportunity to change my process too drastically through the remainder of this month but I will look towards trialing some form of this idea in September with hopes that it can be helpful for next season.

      All the best,

Have you seen the report on Trevor Bauer’s “small fracture”? I’m a Bauer owner and really bummed. Where to make up all those K’s, QS and solid ratios? Anyway, how long do you think he will be out? Hope for a speedy response from you as I’m debating whether or not to keep or drop and replace.

    • Avatar Jeff Davis says:

      Hi PG,

Sorry for your situation – it doesn’t look great. Typically a stress fracture of the fibula will take about 6-8 weeks to recover fully. That takes Bauer to the start of October. Even if it is ‘small’, as the Indians have described it, it’s unlikely that Bauer would return in mid-September and even more unlikely that the Indians (who have a stranglehold on the weakest division in baseball) would rush him back. Their focus will be on their postseason, which likely means Bauer is out for yours.

Best of luck, and sorry once again.
