The 9 Nastiest Pitches From Sunday

The Nastiest Pitches from Sunday's slate of games.

Every morning, the We Love Baseball crew reviews the Nastiest Pitches from the previous day’s games in glorious high-definition GIFs. We want to bring you the highest caliber of nastiness possible, so if you see a nasty pitch, please tell us about it. You can tweet @PitcherList to let us know and we’ll give you a shout-out here in the article if your tip makes the cut.

As a bonus for PL+ members, let us know about a pitch on the PL+ Discord in the Nasty Pitches Channel, and if your suggestion is included the next day, you’ll be entered into a weekly drawing for a free T-shirt!

Hunter Greene’s Slider

Starting off, we have one of the strangest games you will see in quite some time. Hunter Greene pitched 7.1 no-hit innings in a game that would end with a Reds (unofficial) no-hit loss. Greene was in command early, as you can tell from this nasty slider that makes Ke’Bryan Hayes look foolish.

Kyle Wright’s Curveball

Kyle Wright is a yet another solid young arm in a rotation of Braves pitchers that has served Atlanta very well over the past few years. Wright struck out nine hitters on Sunday, including Luke Voit, who went down swinging on this wonderful curve.

 Clay Holmes‘ Sinker

Clay Holmes has been one of baseball’s most effective relievers this year. The man is just nasty. Here he strikes out Andrew Vaughn on a wild sinker that darts across the zone as Vaughn swings through the pitch.

Frankie Montas‘ Splitter

Frankie Montas had the put-away pitch working for him yesterday against the Angels. Montas struck out a dozen, including Andrew Velazquez, who went down swinging to end the 4th inning on this filthy splitter.

Aaron Nola’s Knuckle-Curve

Aaron Nola was dominant against the most feared lineup in baseball. Nola only allowed two runs against a dangerous Dodgers lineup. Here, Nola tosses a brutal knuckle curve that drops out on slugging infielder Max Muncy, who swings over the pitch.

Alek Manoah’s Fastball

Everyone knows Alek Manoah for his wicked slider which gets some vicious movement. But did you know that his fastball is also filthy? Here he throws a dart to Taylor Walls, who could only help but look at a pitch that paints the inside edge of the zone.

Joe Musgrove’s Slider

It was another solid outing for Joe Musgrove, who’s been top notch for the Padres this season. Musgrove struck out six over six quality innings. Here, he slings a slider past Austin Riley for a nasty first inning K.

Justin Verlander’s Curveball

Justin Verlander has been great in 2022 after missing all of last year, and yesterday he continued his great comeback season. Here JV bends a curve over the edge of the plate to freeze Yadiel Hernandez for a called strike three.

Adam Wainwright’s Curveball

And we end this morning with a filthy Adam Wainwright curve. Don’t let his age fool you, Waino can drop the hammer just about as good as anyone. And here he does so to LaMonte Wade Jr. for the first out of the game.
