Welcome back to Relievers to Stream for Wins and Saves! This will bring you up-to-date bullpen depth charts every morning for the day’s games and makes for a great tool for those of you looking to stream saves or wins. This series runs seven days a week, so be sure to check in every morning to get your daily bullpen fix!

Schedule Notes

 

• 14 teams have a built-in rest day coming up on Monday and so may feel the ability to be more aggressive with their high leverage bullpen options through the weekend: SD, LAD, COL, STL, CIN, CHC, ATL, OAK, HOU, MIN, KC, DET, CWS, BOS
• Rotations are still in massive flux since the trade deadline. We could see extensive use in the mid-inning RPs for today’s matchups.

 

Transaction and Injury Notes

• San Francisco Giants placed LHP Tony Watson on the active roster. Optioned LHP Sammy Long to Sacramento (Triple-A West).
• Boston Red Sox Placed LHP Darwinzon Hernandez on the 10-day IL, retroactive to July 30. Also, RHP Hansel Robles and LHP Austin Davis are now on the active roster.

 

• Los Angeles Angeles placed LHP Sam Selman on the active roster.
• Chicago Cubs placed RHP Codi Heuer on the active roster.

 

• Milwaukee Brewers placed RHP John Curtiss and LHP Daniel Norris on the active roster. Also, placed RHPs Jake Cousins and Jandel Gustave on the 10-day IL.
• Washington Nationals placed RHP Mason Thompson on the active roster.

 

• Los Angeles Dodgers recalled LHP Edwin Uceta from Oklahoma City.
• Toronto Blue Jays released RHP Tyler Chatwood.

 

Yesterday’s Performances

• Raisel Iglesias finally gave fantasy managers a moment to breathe as he closed down the Athletics in 1-2-3 fashion. After a few rough outings and questions about whether he would continue his duties in the ninth, Iglesias earns his 22nd save on the season. That job doesn’t look like it’ll be going anywhere anytime soon.
• The Giants capped off a come-from-behind victory with Jake McGee collecting his 22nd save as well. While many assumed his massive fastball-heavy approach could lead to his undoing. McGee makes it work by pounding the zone repeatedly with high 98-mph heat and a usable slider. McGee has split the save duties at times in the season with Tyler Rogers but is currently getting all the opportunities thrown his way.

 

• In the ninth inning, the Orioles handed the ball to Cole Susler, who would lock down his fifth save of the season. To anyone trying to nail down who will get the next save chance, your guess is good as mine. The only RP that hasn’t pitched the last two nights is César Valdez, yes, the same one that began the season with the closer role.
• In a surprising move, the Chicago Cubs turned their hopes of shutting out the Nationals to Kyle Ryan. Ryan picked up his first save after he walked Victor Robles and induced a double play from Juan Soto. For those fantasy managers trying to get a handle on the Cubs closer, sorry, it’s likely going to committee, but perhaps Ryan gets the first crack-so take your first shot there.

 

• Aroldis Chapman had pitched three of the previous four nights,  and when it came time for someone to finish off the Marlins, the pinstripes handed the ball to Jonathan Loaisiga. And outside of a single to Jorge Alfaro, the Marlins went down in a timely fashion. The save was Loaisiga’s third on the season, and he remains one of the Yankees’ more valuable high-leverage RPs. However, should another save chance arise, the ball club will surely go back to Chapman.
• The Rangers’ newly appointed closer Spencer Patton quickly put himself on the hot seat after allowing an HR to Ty France in the ninth, followed by another run in the 10th. However, he was then bailed out by also newly acquired Diego Castillo, who served up Jonah Heim’s second dinger on the evening. If Seattle elects not to use Castillo if a save is in play, the next man up could be Paul Sewald.

 

• Edwin Díaz pitched in a non-save chance and didn’t meltdown. That performance gave him a fourth win on the season. At the same time, there has been some debate on whether Díaz should remain the closer in New York. The ball club has shown no signs of switching to anyone else. He remains a top-10 closer who would be available to collect his 23rd save if needed on Sunday.
• After a disastrous outing by James Karinchak, Emmanuel Clase came in to finish out the final 1.2 innings on Saturday’s game. The occasion marked his 13th save on the season, and even though he’s faltered mightily at times, the ERA sits at a respectable 1.85. There is no doubt that Cleveland will alternate between the two workhorse arms as the season advances.

 

• The Rockies were heavy underdogs going into Saturday’s game. Except, the ball club from Colorado reigned supreme as Daniel Bard picked up his 16th save. However, this was an ugly outing as he began by allowing a double to Jurickson Profar, then a single to Austin Nola, before Adam Frazier grounded into a double play. Bard remains the lone target for saves in the Rockies’ bullpen.
• While many assumed David Bednar would take over the closer duties in Pittsburgh, that may not be the case. Bednar came into the game in the eighth inning. Rather, the Pirates elected to use Chris Stratton in the ninth. For those managers speculating on saves in Pittsburgh, you might need to consider picking up Stratton before Bednar.
