Notes

  • We have eight new additions this week, which include Nathan Eovaldi, Adam Morgan, Andres Munoz, David Phelps, Jeurys Familia, Tim Mayza, Justin Wilson and Jose Alvarez. Eovaldi is due back this weekend and should take over as the team’s closer within a week or so. Munoz may not see a ton of hold chances if the Padres stand pat at the deadline, but his talent makes him worth a flyer over the names behind him.
  • Leaving the list are Austin Adams, Ryan Brasier, David Hernandez, Jacob Webb, Austin Brice, Tanner Rainey, Jairo Diaz, and Jared Hughes. Adams had a setback in his return and has yet to resume throwing yet, so expect him out into August. Brasier has largely been a disappointment this year for Boston and was sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket earlier this week. July really hasn’t been too kind to Hernandez, as he’s allowed 11 earned runs in just 3.1 innings.
  • Ian Kennedy led all relievers with four SV+HD this past week as the hot streak continues. His eight SV+HD over the past month, which is half of his total for the entire year, also leads all relievers. It’s hard to suggest this can continue with the Royals in full sell mode, but given his contract, Kennedy should remain the team’s closer for the rest of the year, so just keep riding this wave for now.

Thoughts on Munoz’ upside in the rankings? Hasn’t exactly had this elite control in the minors but has looked very promising so far
