  • It only took the entire season, but Mike Shildt and the Cardinals seem to have realized John Brebbia might be a better option than John Gant late in games. They’ve each had their ups and downs, including Brebbia just yesterday, but for the most part, Brebbia has outpitched Gant and should be the one with the holds advantage.
  • Diego Castillo has worked himself back into the holds mix as he earned two this past week. His strong run in September continues as he now has allowed just four hits and one run while holding an 18:3 K/BB ratio over 14.1 September innings. Edwin Diaz had himself one of his better weeks over the past few months, finishing with six strikeouts and allowing just two walks over 2.1 innings while also earning a hold. Hopefully, he can carry this momentum through the weekend and into next season.
  • With this being the last Hold Up of the season, I’d like to thank all of you who read these weekly lists. And for those of you who don’t play in holds leagues yet, I strongly encourage you to give it a try next year. Keep an eye out this fall for our team-by-team bullpen reviews that will cover all fantasy-relevant relievers heading into the 2020 season.
