With a 20.0% swinging-strike rate and a paltry .152 opponent wOBA, the changeup is definitely a weapon in Luzardo’s impressive arsenal.
In limited appearances in the Bigs, Luzardo made hitters whiff 68% on his devastating curve. It held a 3.99 wCB/C according to Fangraphs and will contribute to a very healthy K% in 2020 if he stays healthy and is a mainstay in the rotation. FYI, his overall K% in 2019 was 34.8%.
Luzardo’s heater averages out at 96.3 mph with room to grow for sure. In the Wild Card loss to the Rays, in which he fired 3 innings of shutout relief, he threw four fastballs at a recorded velocity of 98.7 mph. His poise on the mound and elite command could well make his four-seamer a Money Pitch in 2020.
