Soto barely threw his changeup, at just 6.0% usage, and almost exclusively against right-handed batters. In a small sample size (just 64 total pitches), it showed an awful 10.5% whiff rate and surrendered a brutal .448 xwOBA to opposing batters.
Soto’s fastball, a sinker, averaged 95 mph. It returned a poor 14.8% whiff rate. Poor location inside the zone resulted in an ugly xwOBA of .414 to allowed to opposing hitters.
Soto’s breaking pitch, the slider, averaged just under 85 mph and returned a very good 16.5% swinging-strike rate (36.4% whiffs). He did a nice job of commanding the pitch down in the zone, limiting hitters to a meager .268 xwOBA.
