Strider the strikeout King
Spencer Strider broke Atlanta’s franchise record for strikeouts in a single game, fanning 16 Rockies hitters through eight innings. John Smoltz previously held the record with 15, accomplished on two different occasions. One in 1992 against the Montreal Expos and again in 2005 against the Mets.
Strider had a perfect game through four and allowed just two hits and no walks in 106 pitches.

Free agent suspended
Carlos Martínez, the free agent pitcher, has been suspended for 85 games for violating the domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy. MLB said the suspension is retroactive to June 19 and Martinez will participate in a confidential evaluation and treatment program supervised by the league’s joint policy board.
Martinez was also suspended for 80 games in May under the minor league drug program after testing positive for Ibutamoren, which increases Human Growth Hormone.

September call-ups start in New York
The Yankees selected the contract of infielder Oswald Peraza. The 22-year-old ranked 53 among all prospects according to MLB Pipeline. Peraza will stick to shortstop and is known for his speed and defensive abilities. He has stolen 33 bases during his Triple-A campaign.

Giants pick up Brinson
The Giants acquired outfielder Lewis Brinson from the Astros. San Francisco sent cash considerations to Houston. Brinson has been successful for the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys, slashing .299/.356/.574 with 22 home runs and 63 RBIs.

Tigers deal with 18th shutout this season
The Mariners completed a three-game sweep against the Tigers, shutting the Tigers out 7-0. Julio Rodríguez and Ty France hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning, while Logan Gilbert held the Tigers to two hits while striking out nine through six innings. The shutout was the 18th of the season for Detroit.

Nats walk it off
Joey Meneses walked it off for the Nationals in the 10th inning. The A’s were up 5-4 before Meneses launched the ball 389 feet for a three-run homer. This was his seventh home run of the season.
