Brendan McKay’s Curveball
Well, Brendan McKay sure has had a very impressive start to his big league career. 3 starts, 3 ER over 16 IP and a 13:1 K:BB ratio. Just once can the Rays have a prospect that fails? Just this year they’ve shown McKay, the Lowe’s (Nate and Brandon) and turned Yandy Diaz into a stud. Ho-Hum, just good development things. Sweet curveball, Brendan.
Noah Syndergaard’s Changeup
Yeesh. Thor has not had a good year, we can say that pretty confidently at this point. However, he still has enviable stuff and shows it off as much as he can. His 100 MPH sinker was on display last night, as well as this darting (91MPH!!) change.
Trevor Bauer’s Curveball
As long as Max Kepler isn’t batting, Trevor Bauer is really good. He made Jorge Polanco look silly on a couple of curves last night. Bauer may just have the biggest impact of any player on the Indians playoff chances – they need him.
Chris Sale’s Slider
Speaking of struggling aces, damn, Chris Sale, what is going on, man? Three straight outings of 5ER is worrisome for the Red Sox – they need Sale to lead them into the playoffs as the rest of their rotation (outside of Price and maybe ERod?) is suspect.
Adam Ottavino’s 2-seamer
Basically whenever I watch Ottavino I think of this column. His appearances always have at least a couple of “Nastiest Pitches” candidates. This 2-seamer shuffles back over the plate at the last moment, leaving Rowdy Tellez to roll his eyes.
