Oh man, what a bad time of year to get on a cold streak. I went 0-3 last week (what I deserve for taking two unders) dropping my season-long record to 13-16 and down 3.8u on the season. Well, today is the season finale and my last chance to salvage some type of positivity ahead of the playoffs!

Yankees Total Runs o/u 5.5

On the eve of the playoffs, it is reasonable to expect many teams to sit some players and gear up for next week’s chaos. The Yankees should not be one of those teams. Their playoff position has looked tenuous at times this summer, and they would not even be able to sniff a spot if not for the expanded field. With a loss today and Blue Jay win, they will drop all the way back to the 8th seed (after a convoluted set of tie-breakers with the Jays) and be set for a date with Tampa at the Trop.

That being said, I do not think we will reach that scenario because the Yankees will win today against the Marlins and José Ureña. This run total feels suspiciously low considering how terrible Ureña is and the fact that this game is at Yankee Stadium. FTN’s Lineup Optimizer has the Yanks going over this total and so do I.

Pick: OVER 5.5 Runs (+100 DK)

A’s Total Runs o/u 4.5

The A’s are playing for a seed today, a full game back from Minnesota but holding the tiebreaker. Whether or not that’s a relevant fact for them without home games past the Wildcard Round and still a relative unknown regarding matchups, there should not be any sitting of players today and 5 runs are piecemeal for the A’s offense. Granted, they have not put up 5 runs in their last 5 games, but FTN’s Lineup Optimizer lists their total right there (4.4, to be exact) and I have a feeling they will get to the lowly Mariners bullpen after Marco Gonzales leaves the game.

Pick: OVER 4.5 Runs (+118 DK)

Bryse Wilson o/u 4.5 Strikeouts

The Braves have been starving for pitching reinforcements all season and may have finally found some with Wilson this week. Long considered one of their better pitching prospects, jumping in and out both the overall Top 100 and Braves’ Top 5, Wilson has been largely a disappointment in limited MLB exposure. That being said, he balled out on Tuesday with 7 punchouts in just 5 innings.

A major adjustment for Wilson was the usage of his sinker, jumping up to 30% of his pitches thrown without ever being used more than 10% in any major league appearance. Ride Wilson today against the lowly Sox.

Pick: OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (+105 DK)
