UPDATES

Darren O’Day (RP, Baltimore Orioles) – O’Day has opted for surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2018 season.

Carlos Correa (SS, Houston Astros) – Correa ended up with a retroactive DL move. He is expected to return when first eligible on 7-6-18.

John Lamb (SP, Los Angeles Angels) – Lamb will undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss most of the 2019 season and the remainder of the 2018 season.

Byron Buxton (OF, Minnesota Twins) – The Twins have shared that Buxton may not be ready by the time his rehab assignment ends. That date is 7-9-18, but he may be sent to AAA at that time.

Francisco Cervelli (C, Pittsburgh Pirates) – This situation is odd as it’s being sparsely reported on. Cervelli was moved to the DL10 on 7-1-18 according to MLB Transaction webpage. He may be out until after the All-Star Break at this rate.

ADDITIONS

Devin Marrero (3B, Arizona Diamondbacks) – No degree of strain is currently available.

Brandon McCarthy (SP, Atlanta Braves) – McCarthy missed approximately two weeks with the same concern last year. With our proximity to the All-Star Break, it makes the most sense to expect him to return after the break.

Steve Wilkerson (3B, Baltimore Orioles) – Wilkerson will require further testing, though I anticipate a DL stint will be necessary. Length of absence depends on the degree of strain in that case.

Colby Rasmus (OF, Baltimore Orioles) – Rasmus should return in a day or two.

Addison Russell (SS, Chicago Cubs) – Russell is undergoing additional testing after having his left hand stepped on during Sunday’s game. Russell has been working through finger pain for much of the season, which may play a role in any forthcoming DL decisions. He is set to be evaluated on Tuesday, so look for updates that afternoon and Wednesday morning.

Brian Duensing (RP, Chicago Cubs) – If this is truly just fatigue than Duensing will likely be able to bounce back pretty quickly. It may make sense to hold him out until after the ASB depending on his progress.

Albert Almora Jr. (OF, Chicago Cubs) – Almora dealt with some heat-related cramping and was out for most of the weekend. He should be good to return on Tuesday after Monday’s off day.

Chad Bettis (SP, Colorado Rockies) – Bettis is currently expected to make his next start, though it may be prudent to skip one via the DL10. A retroactive DL move is still a possibility.

Leury Garcia (OF, Chicago White Sox) – I’ve not seen the play in question, but Garcia jammed his finger at some point on Sunday. He will be re-evaluated on Monday, but I don’t anticipate a DL stint at this time.

Leonys Martin (OF, Detroit Tigers) – It sounds as though Martin will be placed on the DL, though no move has been completed at this time. A 3-week absence isn’t out of the question and places him back in the lineup just after the ASB.

Alex Wilson (RP, Detroit Tigers) – Wilson will be evaluated early this week. He is currently DTD.

George Springer (OF, Houston Astros) – Springer was able to pinch run on Sunday, so he may be able to return on Tuesday after Monday’s off day.

Josh Fields (RP, Los Angeles Dodgers) – Retroactive move and Fields’ effectiveness may dictate that he will return quickly, but in cases of inflammation a wait-and-see approach makes the most sense.

Jake Jewell (RP, Los Angeles Angels) – This is an ugly one. I’m not familiar with this particular procedure but the Angels have provided a 6-month timetable, indicating Jewell will look to return in 2019.

Bobby Wilson (C, Minnesota Twins) – Wilson should be able to return in the early part of this week.

Taylor Motter (OF, Minnesota Twins) – Motter has been placed on the DL7 due to concussion symptoms. Return from a concussion is difficult to predict, though it may be prudent to hold Motter out until after the ASB.

Christian Yelich (OF, Milwaukee Brewers) – The Brewers passed the window for a retroactive DL stint, so I believe they feel Yelich will be able to return shortly. More updates are likely coming on Monday.

Austin Romine (C, New York Yankees) – MRI came back negative, so this doesn’t appear to be a major concern. Catching is very demanding on the lower half, and the Yankees may look to promote a catcher to buy Romine some time.

Vince Velasquez (SP, Philadelphia Phillies) – If you haven’t seen this play go watch it immediately. Velasquez will have to work through some soreness and inflammation though X-rays came back negative. He will likely only need to skip one start.

Pablo Sandoval (3B, San Francisco Giants) – X-rays came back negative. Sandoval should be able to return early this week.

Wilmer Font (RP, Tampa Bay Rays) – This sounds like a Grade 2 strain, which will likely keep Font on the DL until September.

Ryan Tepera (RP, Toronto Blue Jays) – I’m hoping that this isn’t more serious than inflammation though the Jays have been rather cryptic at times this year. Either way, it doesn’t make sense to expect Tepera to return prior to the ASB.
