Clay Buchholz (SP, Arizona Diamondbacks) – Buchholz hit the DL as his status was upgraded to a left oblique strain. He is likely out until after the All-Star Break.

Kris Bryant (3B, Chicago Cubs) – Bryant ended up hitting the DL10. There is still nothing indicating a significant concern and I’d look for Bryant to return approximately when first eligible.

Gary Sanchez (C, New York Yankees) – Sanchez will likely be out until after the All-Star Break as he was diagnosed with a Grade 1 groin strain.

Daniel Mengden (SP, Oakville Athletics) – Mengden was moved to the DL10, though no structural damage has been noted. He has a chance to return when first eligible.

Alex Avila (C, Arizona Diamondbacks) – Due to the retroactive DL move I feel this may not be a serious strain. It could also be due to Avila essentially acting as a third catcher at the moment. The DBacks may consider a rehab assignment as a chance to jump-start his bat.

Ozzie Albies (2B, Atlanta Braves) – The current expectation is that Albies will be ready to go for Friday.

Ender Inciarte (SP, Atlanta Braves) – The Braves feel that they caught this injury before it got serious. Many reports feel that Inciarte will be ready to return for Friday, but I feel it may be prudent to hold him out for an extra day or two – maybe even through the weekend. We’ll see how they play it, but hopefully, a DL stint can be avoided.

Anibal Sanchez (SP, Atlanta Braves) – Sanchez dealt with some right calf cramps and left his recent start early. He should be able to make his next start.

Darren O’Day (RP, Baltimore Orioles) – A strain diagnosed at Grade 2 means an extended absence for O’Day.

Craig Gentry (OF, Baltimore Orioles) – Gentry attempted to play through the pain of a fractured rib which makes me feel we just have a minor crack in one of his rib bones. I don’t think he’ll be able to return when first eligible, but about a week after that is a possibility.

Dylan Bundy (SP, Baltimore Orioles) – The current plan is for Bundy to miss one start and return to the rotation on 7-6-18.

Stephen Wright (RP, Boston Red Sox) – I’m leaning toward the long end of the 2-4 week timetable as this is the same knee that Wright received surgery for this offseason.

Justin Hancock (RP, Chicago Cubs) – Hancock was called up and hit the DL two days later. Poor guy. Return to play will be determined by how long he is shut down from throwing, though he may get sent back to the minors once he is healthy.

Amir Garrett (RP, Cincinnati Reds) – Garrett took a batted ball off the knee. X-rays came back negative, and he should be able to return in a few days once swelling and pain subside.

Carlos Correa (SS, Houston Astros) – Correa is battling through some back stiffness, though there is no indication that this will lead to an extended absence.

Salvador Perez (C, Kansas City Royals) – Perez wore a foul ball in the middle of his right forearm, which caused some numbness in his hand. The ball appeared to strike the rough area of the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve which would explain the numbness (this nerve distributes to the base of the thumb) and is no cause for concern. Perez feels he’ll be able to play Friday (after Thursday’s off day), though I suspect he’ll get an X-ray on Thursday just to be safe. If anything we’d have a microfracture of his radius, though I don’t think that’s too likely at the moment.

Justin Grimm (RP, Kansas City Royals) – Limited information available, and the Royals have yet to a release a timetable. Grimm will likely be out until after the All-Star Break.

John Lamb (SP, Los Angeles Angels) – This sounds like an extended absence for Lamb as he will be shut down from throwing until the inflammation subsides in both his elbow and shoulder.

J.T. Realmuto (C, Miami Marlins) – Realmuto has missed a couple of games after taking a foul tip off his hand/wrist. He nearly played on Wednesday and should return prior to the weekend.

Edubray Ramos (RP, Philadelphia Phillies) – Limited information available, though Ramos will likely be out until after the All-Star Break.

Sean Rodriguez (2B, Pittsburgh Pirates) – Retroactive DL move makes me feel this is minor, though no degree of strain has been reported.

Chad Kuhl (SP, Pittsburgh Pirates) – I’ve listed Kuhl as DTD for now, though that will likely change pending imaging results. We should have more information prior to the weekend, but this doesn’t look great at the moment.

Nelson Cruz (DH, Seattle Mariners) – Cruz has been battling some back tightness though he expects to return to the lineup on Thursday.

Kolten Wong (2B, St. Louis Cardinals) – Wong was pulled after taking a pitch off the posterior portion of his right leg just above the knee. I don’t see anything that should cause him an extended absence.

Jonny Venters (RP, Tampa Bay Rays) – No degree of strain reported, though I don’t believe this to be serious at this time.

Ronald Guzman (1B, Texas Rangers) – Guzman has a chance to return to the Rangers in early July, though concussions can linger for much longer than that as well. Monitor updates.

Sorry for the late reply, Rick – I’ve been away for a few days.

I’m not concerned – assuming he and the Nationals manage the inflammation appropriately and there are no structural issues (as has been reported) he should be fine once he returns. He seems to be making progress now, too!

Thanks for the question!

I think we need a column in this table which warns that a player’s wife is expecting. It seems like every season I get blind-sided by a player suddenly going on paternity leave and missing half a scoring period. I’ll never forget when Cole Pedroia’s arrival in the middle of my league’s final in all likelihood cost me a championship. Gurriel got me this week.

This had me in stitches!

I often go to Rotoworld for a quick glance at the guys who I should be covering. On there, they list injury as ‘wife having baby’ and it always makes me chuckle.

We’ll work on Paternity List in the future 🙂
