Morton throws a splitter from time to time (3%) with some nice fade to it. The pitch sits at about 85 mph and Morton mainly uses it against lefties. While it does generate a decent amount of whiffs, when hitters make contact, they do damage (.505 wOBA).
The curve is Morton’s most-used pitch at 37%, and for good reason: It’s nasty. It has big-time sweeping action and has great depth to it, too. Morton can use it as a putaway pitch (41% K rate) when he buries it, but it’s tough to hit no matter where it lands, with a .186 wOBA.
Morton has both a two-seamer and four-seamer, using the two against righties and the four against lefties. They sit 94-95 mph with very good run that makes them tough to square up. The four-seamer gets a ton of whiffs for a fastball (29%) and can be used to finish ABs when he’s looking for a K.
Morton throws a cutter that has good cut to it and great depth. This thing drops quite a bit more than average and gets a 35% whiff rate. He’ll use it against hitters on both sides of the plate, but really likes to run it away from righties.
