Farmer’s change came in about seven ticks slower than his fastball. The pitch produced a 61.5% GB% and allowed a .195 average to batters.
Farmer’s slider hit the zone just 29.9% of the time, but he combined a 21% SwStr% and 37.1% O-Swing% to produce a 36.4% K%.
Farmer’s average velocity on his fastball hit a career-best 95.3, but the results did not follow as he allowed a .406 wOBA on the pitch.
Farmer flashed solid upside with his four-seamer in 2018, topping out at 97 mph with good arm-side run. Hitters had no problem squaring it up, though, as Farmer surrendered a .414 slugging percentage when throwing the pitch with a below-average whiff rate.
Results-wise, the changeup was Farmer’s best pitch in 2018, holding opponents to a .176 average and .309 slugging percentage. It showed great movement horizontally and vertically, holding opponents to just a 68.1% contact rate.
Farmer’s slider had above-average drop but not much cut. It did manage an excellent 20.8% whiff rate and 42.7% chase rate, though when opponents made contact, they made it count, hitting .333 against the pitch.
