Munoz whips his fastball toward home plate from a 3/4 slot at a blistering 100 mph. With good rise and run, this thing is really tough to get good wood on, as evidenced by a 22.6% whiff rate in 2019. That’s impressive for a fastball, and it’s even better when he works it above the belt: 35.7% whif rate.
Munoz uses a slider for a breaking pitch and snaps it off nearly 32% of the time. It’s pretty hard at 86-87 mph and has late breaking action, though the movement itself isn’t anything special. That said, in concert with his fastball, the slider plays up and got whiffs nearly 50% of the time in 2019. When he’s able to bury it to the glove side, it’s practically unhittbale.
