Injury Report – 5/27

Jeff Davis provides an update in Monday's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a biweekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

If you have questions regarding an injury not detailed in this article, feel free to comment below, and I will give my best effort to provide a timely update.

Kris Bryant – Head/Neck Injury

Kris Bryant sustained an injury to his head and/or neck after colliding with a teammate on Sunday. At the time of preparing this article, no reports regarding concussion protocol are available. It seems as though the likely injury, if there is one present, is a concussion which would most likely result in a stay on the seven-day concussion IL. An update should be available Monday.

Estimated return: Early-June.

Tyler Glasnow – Right Forearm Strain

Tyler Glasnow was moved to the 60-day IL, signifying that he will return later than the 4-6 week timetable provided at the time of his injury. Glasnow will likely resume throwing in the next week or two, which should give us a better idea of his potential return date, though he is out until after the All-Star break at this rate.

Estimated return: Mid-July.

Luke Weaver – Right Forearm Tightness

Luke Weaver was pulled from his Sunday start due to right forearm tightness. He will likely undergo an MRI on Monday and an update/diagnosis should be available by the middle of this week. Either way, he will likely be shut down from throwing for at least a brief period.

Estimated return: 2-4 weeks, but could expand based on MRI results.

Franmil Reyes – Left Shoulder Soreness

Franmil Reyes has missed two games due to left shoulder soreness. There is currently no indication that this will be an extended absence, though it may sap his power for a week or two upon his return to the lineup.

Estimated return: Early this week.

Jose Altuve – Left Hamstring Strain

Jose Altuve has begun a rehab assignment in his recovery from a left hamstring strain he sustained early in May. He is on track to return to the MLB club within the first week of June.

Estimated return: First week of June.

Do you know anything on Nelson Cruz? He was supposed to be back last Friday. Thanks

It seems he’s mostly ready but there isn’t a lot of pressure to return quickly since the Twins are playing well in his absence. A left wrist injury has the potential to linger on him so they are doing the right thing in giving him plenty of rest. I wouldn’t anticipate that he’s out too much longer, but I don’t have a firm ETA.
