Tyler Skaggs‘ Curveball

Tyler Skaggs has had a hard time staying healthy in his career, which is quite a shame as those frequent injuries have robbed us of the opportunity to watch gorgeous curveballs like this one. This marks one of the few times I have felt bad for Rougned Odor — a well-placed front door curve is no fun for the guy in the box.
Patrick Corbin’s Slider

Patrick Corbin impressed us all with his wonderful year last year. He owes a lot of his success (and that shiny new contract) to the filthy slider he throws over 40% of the time. Pete Alonso, who has come out of the gates smokin’ hot, whiffs through this perfectly placed slide piece.
Steven Matz‘ Sinker

Steven Matz was brilliant early on against the Washington Nationals; In the first 3 innings, he carved them up to the tune of 5 Ks and 1 hit. Exquisitely executed sinkers like this one will do that to a lineup. Not only will Matz be successful with pitches like this, but he will continue to make batters look foolish, like Victor Robles does here.
Jon Gray’s Curveball

Jon Gray has always had the stuff to be an ace, but has never been able to put it all together. Curves like this one’ll help. Alex Verdugo will have nightmares about this pitch.
Matt Moore’s Changeup

Matt Moore was electric early in Saturday’s start, striking out the side in the second inning. He mixed fastballs away, a sharp curve and changeups like this one to befuddle the Kansas City Royals lineup. Moore hasn’t lived up to his prospect billing, but he’s still only 29. If he can harness some craftiness, the Detroit Tigers could get a nice return on their modest investment.
Kyle Ryan’s Slider

Kyle Ryan was called up from AAA yesterday morning and immediately placed into action by Joe Maddon. Although Ryan has struggled in recent years, disgusting sliders like this one will help him quickly earn his manager’s trust.
