Following up on our weekly Closers and Holds articles will be our Top 100 RP’s for SV+HD leagues every Friday. Use this list to get a feel for the current reliever market and to gauge value for trades, waiver adds, etc. Keep in mind, holds are much more volatile and harder to predict. We’ve only seen one season from a pitcher with more than 30 holds since 2016, while 26 closers have gone over 30 saves in that same timeframe.
NOTES
NOTE: The trade deadline is keeping these rankings very fluid so expect some major changes next week when hopefully the list will start stabilizing.
- Returning to the list this week we have Roberto Osuna, Ken Giles, Addison Reed, Heath Hembree, Luis Avilan, Matt Strahm and Seth Lugo. Still waiting on Osuna and Giles’s debuts for their new teams, but some combination of Hector Rondon and Osuna will likely work the last two innings while holding a lead late while the Jays will use Giles and Ryan Tepera in a similar fashion.
- We lost a total of 7 relievers this week. Tyler Clippard, Ryan Buchter, Juan Minaya, Mark Melancon, Andrew Chafin, Luke Gregerson, Richard Rodriguez all left the list for one reason or another. Melancon just continues to be used in non-hold situations for the most part despite pitching fairly well but it’s starting to seem like it will be another lost year for him fantasy wise.
- Seven relievers have had 3 SV+HD’s over the past week. Those would be Aroldis Chapman, Wade Davis, Shane Greene, Jose Leclerc, Seung Hwan-Oh, Adam Ottavino, and Joakim Soria.
Rick, WTF happened to Devenski? Did overuse from the last season and a half catch up to him? He was so, so good for that stretch… I hope this isn’t some harbinger of end of the road for him.
I think it has to be overuse from last season. Might just needs an extended break to get back where he once was.
Regardless, his terrible recent stretch and his reduced ROS role in the post-deadline Astros bullpen makes him a safe drop in holds leagues, correct? I have him in a 12 team H2H league. Thanks!
UPDATE: Devo to the DL with hamstring tightness. Guess that resolves that issue.
Andrew Miller was actually, finally activated from the DL today. Really not sure what to expect from him at this point, but we all know the elite upside so I’d probably have him somewhere in tier 2.
