Notes
- We have six new additions this week, which include Mychal Givens, Sam Tuivailala, Junior Guerra, Kevin Ginkel, Matt Strahm, and Rafael Montero. Givens seems to have reclaimed the Orioles closer role with a strong August (13:1 K/BB, seven hits in 10 innings) and makes for an interesting add given the Orioles’ easy schedule in September.
- Leaving the list are Yoshihisa Hirano, Shawn Kelley, Fernando Rodney, Shawn Armstrong, Jake McGee, and A.J. Puk. Hirano is on the IL with elbow inflammation, and while he could rejoin the team within a week, he isn’t worth hanging on to outside of the deepest of leagues.
- We had two pitchers this week pick up three or more SV+HLDs: Brad Hand and Archie Bradley. While Bradley has been cruising in the closer’s role the past few weeks, I’m still not overly excited about him as a fantasy asset over the final month of the season. His 7.4% swinging-strike rate since the All-Star break is one of the worst among relievers, while the 15.8% K-BB rate isn’t very enticing either. Not to mention he’s been getting extremely lucky with a .196 BABIP and 93% left-on-base rate, which shows in his 4.81 xFIP. He’s getting the job done for now and the schedule isn’t terrible going forward, but all the signs point to him coming crashing back down to earth soon.
Good stuff Rick. Quick q – 30 team dynasty roto, playoffs switch to H2H (S+Hlds) — need to drop 2 of Magill, Derek Law (SP Elig), or Treinen…. it’s a tough call if Treinen isn’t getting me anything, but it is dynasty…
In a dynasty format, I think I’d want to wait and see what Treinen brings to the table next season. Magill and Law don’t have the easiest of schedules going forward either and havn’t thrown well lately so they may not be big losses.
