Notes
- We have nine new additions this week, which include Trey Wingenter, Shawn Kelley, Sean Newcomb, Carlos Martinez, Tayron Guerrero, Touki Toussaint, Ryne Harper, Marcus Walden, and Oliver Perez. Toussaint is the wild card here, as he has the potential to be a dominant late-inning reliever. Despite Newcomb receiving a lot of the recent hype in that Braves bullpen, Touki has pitched well in his 6.2 innings since returning 10 days ago, allowing just two hits and a run to go with a 7:1 K/BB rate while also picking up a hold.
- Leaving the list are Wade Davis, Seth Lugo, Chris Martin, Richard Rodriguez, Kyle Barraclough, Ryan Tepera, Justin Miller, Jace Fry, and Buck Farmer. While a few of the names listed above are currently on the IL, it’s been extremely disappointing seasons for both Rodriguez and Fry after showing so much upside last year. Rodriguez and his 5.49 ERA were demoted to Triple-A last week, and I’m sure if the White Sox had any better options, Fry would be sent down by now as well.
- Eight relievers had three holds this past week, including Kirby Yates, Kyle Crick, Blake Treinen, Hector Neris, Tayron Guerrero, Sergio Romo, Adam Morgan, and Jose Alvarez. With more than half that list composed of Marlins and Phillies, it’s easy to get a sense of just how volatile these are to come by. Alvarez didn’t make the list as he had just one hold coming into the week and won’t be of any help with ratios or strikeouts.
