Notes

  • Only three new additions this week, which include Scott Barlow, Buck Farmer, and Carlos Estevez. Barlow is the biggest new name on the list as he has been a revelation for the Royals bullpen this season. Shawn Kelley and Carlos Martinez may both be back with their respective teams this weekend and would slot somewhere into the top half of Tier 4.
  • Leaving the list are Julio Urias, Trevor Hildenberger and Seung-Hwan Oh. Urias is on administrative leave after his arrest Monday night, while Hildenberger was sent to Triple-A following his latest meltdown Wednesday. Oh has been a disaster this year, with a 3.14 HR/9 with an ERA over 10.
  • Zack Britton was the only reliever to notch four saves+holds this week while Aroldis Chapman, Diego Castillo, Luke Jackson, and Pedro Baez each had three apiece. May has been much better for Britton with him having a .222 OBP against over 7.1 innings pitched, compared with the .346 over 12 innings in March/April. Five of his nine holds have also come in May.

For those keeping score at home; Jeremy Jeffress 12.2 IP, 3.55 ERA, SIERA 4.28, 8.53 K/9, 2 SV+HD. That’s right, TWO.
His BABIP is .179, which means his number should in fact be worse.
Yet, he is constantly in the top 50 on these lists with much, much better options below him. I just don’t get it. And neither do these guys.

    • Rick Graham says:

The list is for rest of the season value not current value. Track record still means something in May. The velocity has been ticking up as well. How come you hate him so much? It seems personal at this point.

  2. Greg says:

Does Barlow seems to be mostly a 6th inning guy lately but has the best stuff in the pen. Do you see him getting into the saves/hold conversation (he only has 1/2 so far).

    • Rick Graham says:

He has to, I imagine, given the alternatives. Kennedy, Diekman and Barlow should be their goto 7th inning on group.

  3. J.C. Mosier says:

    No Sean Newcomb?
