The Statsh 5/6: Ranking The Top 10 Pitching Prospects To Stash

It doesn’t appear Jose Berrios will be getting the call today as Nick Tepesch is getting the nod. No worries, he is still stashable as he continues to rake the AAA hitters. Another player that is no longer a prospect is Mike Clevinger. He could be the one making the start this Sunday as Corey Kluber hit the DL. He has been dominate in AAA this year with a 1.50 ERA through six starts. He has 30 innings pitched 32 strikeouts and only 10 walks. You might want to consider adding him if the DL plague has hit you. I have added him in two of my leagues.

Every weekend, I will be posting about the minor leaguers you should be stashing on your team. This list will be arranged by impact for this year only. Players that will be called up sooner will be ahead of players with more talent who might only be called up late in the year. Prospects are a great way to stay ahead of everyone else rather you are in a dynasty league or a 10-team league. With the minor league season going we can start seeing some movement with this list. With more and more games to evaluate, new players will jump onto the list, while others could fall off entirely.

Let’s get down to business.

1) Jeff Hoffman, Colorado Rockies AAA, ETA: June

If you own Jeff Hoffman in a dynasty league you must we watering at the mouth from his last two starts. 13 IP, 13 Strikeouts 4 walks and only 2 earned runs. He has brought his ERA down from 5.14 to 3.71 and has lowered his whip from 1.38 to 1.12. He looks like a 1st round draft pick, and is on top of the pitcher list rankings yet again.

2) Yohander Mendez, Texas Rangers AA, ETA: May

With Cole Hamels on the DL for the next 8 weeks, the Texas Rangers could turn to AA prospect, Yohander Mendez. He has been good but not exceptional in the Texas League this year but one thing that is the most impressive is he gets deeper into games compared to the rest of the players on this list. He is probably closer to a 7 K/9 then an 8k/9 but he should have a respectable ERA and whip and could get some wins. He might not be an immediate add but he has some upside and could be a good player to have that will not destroy your ERA.

3) Dinelson Lamet, San Diego Padres AAA, ETA: June

Dinelson was rocked last week for six earned in five innings, which brought his ERA up from 0.45 to 2.52. However, He has been quite impressive the rest of the year. The NL West is only behind the AL Central in Runs per Game, and with Petco, Lamet has an opportunity to be a solid contributor from his call up date.

4) Chad Green, New York Yankees AAA, ETA: June

Chad Green has had back-to-back bad starts. He has given up ten earned through 8.2 IP but has struck out 10. He seems to have lost some control the past two starts walking seven batters at a rate of 7.27 B/9, way up from his 1.64 BB/9 in his first four starts. I hope that he can turn that around. I still rate him as a decent back end of your fantasy rotation when he gets the call.

5) Brandon Woodruff, Milwaukee Brewers AAA, ETA: June

From players to watch to #5. Brandon Woodruff has been hot hot hot. He owns a 2.22 ERA in 28.1 IP and has 23 strikeout to only six walks. He is similar to Mendez, he is not going to be a high strikeout guy, but he could be a solid contributor and will not destroy your ERA. The Brewers are 2nd in the NL in runs, which should help Woodruff when he does get the call. That might happen sooner rather than later as their rotation has been quite bad with the exception of Chase Anderson.

6) Jacob Faria, Tampa Bay Rays AAA, ETA: June

Faria has been successful in AAA this year outshining his fellow rotation mates in Brett Honeywell and Taylor Guerrieri. He could be a strikeout guy at the mlb level but he will not give you an elite WHIP or ERA. He is a player I would love to stream against weak competition. Watch out for him.

7) Josh Hader, Milwaukee Brewers AAA, ETA: June/July

Hader has been better this week but he still fell on my list. I think the players above him are more likely to have success this year because he is too inconsistent with his command. His pitches are elite but the control is not there. I am hoping he can turn it around but I think Woodruff has jumped him in the next up order.

8) Carson Fulmer, Chicago White Sox AAA, ETA: June

The White Sox were debating Fulmer, is he a starter? Is he a future closer? Well they decided to keep him stretched out and start the year in the rotation. He is rewarding them with a solid year in Charlotte. He has gone at least 5 innings each of his starts and has only allowed more than two ER in one start. His ERA sits at 3.18 and he has 21 strikeouts to 10 walks. I like Carson Fulmer, but he is not likely to set the world on fire when he does get the call.

9) Lucas Sims, Atlanta Braves AAA, ETA: June

Lucas Sims continues to pitch well in AAA. He is not surrendering many walks and he has a very good BAA, which sits at .176. His WHIP is low at 0.84 and his ERA sits at 2.83. He is doing everything you want from a former first rounder. He does not have a high upside, he is more of a major league #4, but he has been quite effective.

10) Luke Weaver, St. Louis Cardinals AAA, ETA: June

Luke Weaver went six innings this week, allowing no walks, no runs, and struck out five. He had some back spasms to begin the year so it is nice to see him work six innings in a start. I would keep an eye out for him because He has the best control on this list and could be a nice addition when he gets the call.
