The List 9/8 – Analyzing Every Starting Pitcher’s Expected ROS Schedule

Nick's massive guide to the final month of the season

Okay. This is going to be a lot.

We’re already past labor day with three weeks to go in the season, and as tradition, I move away from the standard Top 100 SP List in favor of showcasing expected schedules the rest of the year, then highlighting which pitchers should be considered, streamed, and ignored. There are a few reasons to do so:

  • Trade deadlines have passed meaning the value between the different Top 20/30 SP is meaningless. Start them or not is all that matters
  • Schedules now have the largest influence in performance as matchups are more important than general ability in a very small sample
  • This is the best way to help fantasy managers – highlight the best schedules and most likely to perform well vs. me grading a pitcher’s general performance in a neutral setting.
  • It’s tradition.

What I’ve done are a few things. First, I livestreamed earlier this afternoon and worked out which offenses belonged in one of the five tiers:

  • Red = Elite Offense Tier
  • Yellow = Solid Offense Tier
  • Gray = Netural Tier
  • Blue = below Average Tier
  • Green =Please-Start-Against-Me Tier

From here, with the help of the great Colin Charles, we looked at the expected rotations and schedules for each team, creating tables using the color code to highlight their expected schedule.

I’ve written notes under each rotation’s table outlining who to start, stream, and what kind of gambles you can take.

There is a lot of nuances, though. Should you roster a pitcher for a start against the Diamondbacks this week or maybe stash for their final two starts against the Nationals and Marlins? Please don’t hesitate to leave a comment and I’ll get to all your questions tonight to help you make sense of it all.

Lastly, I have to note: These expected rotations will change. I did my best trying to work it all out, but more doubleheaders are likely to abound, which potential postponements, injuries, and surprise call-ups. I’ll update this again next week and hopefully it’ll be a lot of the same.

Alright, enough introduction, let’s get to the offense table:

I’m sure there are a few points of contention here and please send them my way. I can imagine changing the Yankees to a neutral or even yellow offense once they get healthier and I often debated with the grouping of the Phillies and Cubs. We’ll see if this sticks and if you feel differently, well fortunately you can change things for yourself.

Let’s move on to team rotations now:

Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks Expected Rotation

Luke Weaver – Maybe consideration against the Mariners and Rockies, but not Dodgers or Astros. Really depends on that cutter returning tonight if I’d trust him for Seattle. Who knows how he’ll look going into that fourth start.

Taylor Clarke – No thanks.

Madison Bumgarner – I’d only consider him for the third start against the Rangers. His diminished velocity is hurting things. A lot.

Alex Young – He’s worth consideration as a deep streamer against Seattle and Texas, but I’d be out completely against the Angels unless he wildly impresses vs. SEA.

Zac Gallen – Start him. Duh.

Team Notes: The Diamondbacks have a doubleheader on the 25th that will feature a different pitcher + Caleb Smith will rejoin the team at some point and could step into another pitcher’s role, or turn it into a six-man. I’d only consider him for those final Rangers/Rockies series and we’ll get a better sense if he’s locked in by then. I’m leaning that he won’t.

Atlanta Braves

Atlanta Braves Expected Rotation

Kyle Wright / Josh TomlinAbsolutely not. Maybe a deep stream of Tomlin vs. Miami on the 22nd, but that’s still too risky. Wright doesn’t have his command and unless something shows up in his next three starts, I’m out for the Marlins on the 24th.

Tommy Milone – It’s a risk streaming against Miami, and if you can’t do it then, you wouldn’t against the Mets or Red Sox. Maybe the Orioles if he kills it against Miami.

Ian Anderson – Yes please, even with his poor outing on Monday. I want him for all three.

Team Notes: There’s an open spot with Max Fried on the IL and we’re not sure who gets it. I imagine I’ll be out completely, but the 9/21 Miami start could be fruitful if it’s the right replacement, like a Mike Foltynewicz throwing 95+ mph again.

Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore Orioles Expected Rotation

John Means –
As much as I wish I could say all he needs is a start of two, he hasn’t displayed changeup command all year and it’s tough to say it’ll happen now. It’s a rough road ahead and I’d step away completely.

Thomas Eshelman – He’s not the droid arm you’re looking for. Likely not sticking around for long and, you know, it’s Eshelman.

Keegan Akin – There’s a consideration for the Yankee start over the weekend, and possibly as a late stream against the Jays, but man that’s a rough Braves/Sawx back-to-back…if he even gets them. I’d generally avoid Akin.

Dean Kremer – It’s the same mostly with Kremer, though he has a little more upside. If he kills it with the Yankees, I can see myself leaning again vs. the Rays, but for the most part, I’m out.

Team Notes: You may have noticed Asher Wojciechowski missing (likely starting on the ninth) but when he does, I’d avoid. His stuff hasn’t been the whifftastic effort we saw for a glimpse last year and I wouldn’t expect it to return…whenever he does return to the rotation. We also don’t know how Jorge Lopez or Alex Cobb (currently on the IL) fit into the equation, but hopefully it means Kremer sticks around and they don’t go six-man.

Boston Red Sox

Martin Perez – He has a pair of 1 ER across his last three games, but that’s not enough for me to consider rolling with him at all in this one.Nick Pivetta – Is he seriously getting a shot at this again? Watch him put up a stud start against the Marlins just for good time’s sake. In all seriousness, please don’t fall for this.

Chris Mazza/Zack Godley – Why.

Nathan Eovaldi – I imagine Eovaldi could return from the IL on the 12th and get some decent starts down the stretch. I wouldn’t take a shot until the Orioles, though, and that may not even be worth your time.

Chicago Cubs

Chicago Cubs Expected Rotation

Alec Mills – Even with a pair of good starts ahead, he’s not proving his worth.

Yu Darvish – Um yes. All of it, who cares.

Kyle Hendricks – Same with Darvish, even against the Twins.

Adbert Alzolay – Too wild of an arm to trust in any fashion.

Jon Lester – He’s only good for that start against the Pirates and even there it comes with risk. Proceed with caution.

Chicago White Sox

Chicago White Sox Expected Rotation

Dylan Cease – Man, look at that schedule! I expect his ERA to fall to the 4.00s based on ability, but his matchups are doing everything they can to help. Shockingly risky, still.

Dane Dunning – I’d let him fly against the Pirates, but the Twins send him back to the wire. Let’s see if he’s still around for those starts against the Reds or Indians, he’s not that safe, though, so I’d only push it if I needed to.

Lucas Giolito – Aces gonna ace, you. He’s as locked in as anyone right now and be happy you have four starts of it.

Dallas Keuchel – I’m not sure he makes that start on the 12th as he’s dealing with back stiffness at the moment. I’d roll him out there for all these starts, though, even against the Twins.

Gio Gonzalez – The White Sox can likely skip him this weekend with a day off on the 10th and I’m not sure he gets the fifth spot moving forward. Not worth the risk against Cleveland.

Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati Reds Expected Rotation

Tyler MahleI like where he’s at and would start him against the Cubs and Cardinals…but not the White Sox and Twins. Don’t overvalue him but take advantage in the short term.

Trevor Bauer / Sonny Gray / Luis CastilloYes, of course. You don’t need me.

Anthony DeSclafani – He’s been struggling lately and I wouldn’t entrust him with a start against the Reds and definitely not the White Sox. If he gets the Brewers, I’d consider it, but we’ll see if he even gets there.

Tejay Antone – He’ll likely get the doubleheader on the 14th with a chance to steal Tony Disco’s spot after if the Reds use the 17th day off to reset the rotation. I don’t love him, but I would consider starting him against Milwaukee if he gets that chance (probably not).

Cleveland Indians

Cleveland Indians Expected Rotation

Start all of them, always. Okay fine, maybe not Triston McKenzie against the White Sox, I’d let him fly against the Twins, though. The rest? Yeah, they got this.

Colorado Rockies

Colorado Rockies Expected Rotation

It’s the opposite of the Cleveland Indians, I barely want any of this. Keep in mind, I added a tier up when playing inside Coors (OAK/LAA = Yellow now)

Antonio Senzatela – Just against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

German Marquez – Bench hosting the Dodgers, but consider him for the Giants on the road, Arizona (duh), and maybe even the Angels in Coors. That’s the riskiest one.

Kyle Freeland – Sorry Freeland, I don’t want any of these starts.

Team Notes: There is a doubleheader on the 25th that will go to some other pitcher and it doesn’t matter, I wouldn’t start them.

Detroit Tigers

Detroit Tigers Expected Rotation

Spencer Turnbull – He’s in a bad place and I’d hold off against the Brewers, but I could see myself returning by the time the Royals show up – maybe even the Indians if he excels in the short term.

Matthew Boyd – Hello schedule! It’s gorgeous and at the perfect time for Boyd as he peaked last time out. I’d be grabbing and letting this fly – monitor it, of course. The wheels could come off in an instant and if they do, we’re done.

Tarik Skubal – I don’t think his stuff is polished enough for me to trust him against the Cardinals or Twins and possibly not the Royals, either. It’s a risky start both times, and let his starts prior dictate if he’s worth the stream or not.

Casey Mize – He’s in a bad place right now and with just one good matchup, I don’t think we can bank on him getting it together in time.

Michael Fulmer – Ha.

Team Notes: There is a doubleheader on the 10th that will likely go to Tyler AlexanderThat’s a no from me.

Houston Astros

Houston Astros Expected Rotation

Zack Greinke – Duh.

Brandon Bielak – Those are some nice matchups and I imagine he can pull off a decent stream in at least one of those. He could be worth it for just the Rangers and sit out of the Mariners.

Luis Garcia – I imagine he’s just there for today’s doubleheader and won’t get a start after.

Jose Urquidy – He’s starting again and I’d let him warm-up for another start or two. Consider him for the last two starts, though.

Framber Valdez – His curveball was gone last time and while this is a sit against the Dodgers, he should be worth it against the Diamondbacks and Mariners

Cristian Javier – Same as Framberfor Javier, though less upside in those last two starts.

Team Notes: Justin Verlander may make his return at some point and kick one of these guys out. Keep that in mind.

Kansas City Royals

Kansas City Royals Expected Rotation

Jakob Junis – Even with a great schedule, I wouldn’t want to take the chance here.

Danny Duffy – I’d take the shot against the Tigers twice, but not the Cardinals and likely not Cleveland either.

Brady Singer – Finally, a good schedule! Poor guy had the Twins and White Sox for his last five and will get some respite. I’d sit for the Cardinals but otherwise feel okay starting him.

Kris Bubic – Maybe consider the Pittsburgh start and if that goes well, then Milwaukee, but not the Cardinals.

Brad Keller – He’s trending down with his velocity while his new breaker was super effective just once. I’m not diving back in despite the schedule.

Los Angeles Angels

Los Angeles Angels Expected Rotation

Andrew Heaney – Easy, start against the Rangers and not inside Coors or against the Dodgers.

Julio Teheran – Maybe a desperate stream against the Diamondbacks and Rangers, but at the very least not his start on Wednesday. Too soon.

Dylan Bundy – I’d let him fly the rest of the way. Up to you for that start on the final day of the season and take that calculated risk if you need to.

Griffin Canning – I don’t think I’d take the shot even for that one start against the Diamondbacks

Jaime Barria – Nah, not even for the Rangers.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers Expected Rotation

Walker Buehler / Clayton Kershaw – I want all of it, I don’t care.

Dustin May – I think you’d start against all but the Padres. Yes, even with what he’s done to Manny Machadohe’s a GIF king, not a fantasy king.

Tony Gonsolin / Julio Urias – I feel bad for these guys as they get a rough end to the year. I think they’re both good for that final start, but things may get shaken up as the Dodgers tweak their post-season rotation. At any rate, I think they are both too much of a risk against the Astros, followed by a trip to Coors may warrant a drop. Blegh.

Miami Marlins

Miami Marlins Expected Rotation

Sixto Sanchez – I’m starting him in full, even against the Braves. I love this kid.

Pablo Lopez – I think I’m doing the same, though I’ll keep my fingers crossed he gets that changeup down again.

Sandy Alcantara – Save for the start against Boston, you should feel good the rest of the way. If his changeup is there against Philly, I’d feel confident against the Red Sox, too.

Trevor Rogers – That’s a tempting start against the Phillies given his ability to keep his sliders and changeups down. I think the Yankees will be better than a Tier 4 offense by the final week and I’d drop after the Phillies start. No thanks, Boston.

Jose Urena – There isn’t enough in this repertoire for me to feel good starting him anywhere.

Team Notes: The Marlins have a ton of doubleheaders after missing plenty of games. It’s unclear who gets those starts (Dan Castano?) but I wouldn’t touch them.

Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers Expected Rotation

Adrian Houser – I’d start him against the Tigers and Royals, but even that Royals start brings trepidation. It’s just a good sinker and not much else, making his starts against the Cardinals highly questionable. Make a longer decision after today.

Corbin Burnes – Yep, I’m all for all of this. Let’s go Burnes.

Josh Lindblom – His velocity has fallen below 90 mph and while he’s getting slider whiffs, it’s not enough. I’d sit this out and see if he takes a step forward before trusting in any of these.

Brandon Woodruff – You’re starting him in all three of these games.

Brett Anderson – Maybe a stream against the Royals, but even that is blegh and you’d be chasing ratios only. Not for me.

Team Notes: There are three doubleheaders that I imagine will be bullpen games – though we could see Freddy Peralta or Eric LauerI wouldn’t gamble with either.

Minnesota Twins

Minnesota Twins Expected Rotation

Jose Berrios – Start him for all of them. He’s cruising (it continued vs. the Cardinals today!) and let’s cross our fingers it sticks through the end.

Randy Dobnak – He’s a start save for the White Sox. Expect decent ratios and a good chance for Wins.

Kenta Maeda – He’s dope. Don’t overthink this.

Rich Hill – Ehhhh, he’s not getting whiffs and his velocity has dipped under 88 mph. I’m okay for the Indians and Tigers, but the White Sox? Absolutely not.

Michael Pineda – I’m 50/50 for the Cubs as he’s known as a volatile arm and his velocity dipped in his last start. I think I’m okay for the Reds, though.

New York Mets

New York Mets Expected Rotation

Michael Wacha – Under no circumstance.

Rick Porcello – Ugh, maybe a stream against the Orioles or Nationals? I don’t want to if I don’t have to, but I recognize that he has these moments every so often.

Seth Lugo – Yeah, I think I’m cool with the Rays in three starts as he’s fully stretched out. Huh, I guess I’m in for all four.

Jacob deGrom – Hmmm, let me thi-YES PLEASE. Sad it’s just three starts, but it sets them up for the playoffs properly.

David Peterson – He hasn’t been the same since the shoulder injury. That’s a no from me, even against Washington.

New York Yankees

New York Yankees Expected Rotation

JA Happ – Ehhhh all of these are a bit worrisome, even the Orioles. I’d avoid it if I could.

Deivi Garcia – I expect Garcia to be better than his last outing and a start for most of these. If he struggles against the Jays, I wouldn’t repeat it the following week, nor Boston, but still for the Marlins. If he succeeds, he may have the momentum for Boston. Monitor this.

Gerrit Cole – Yes, come on.

Masahiro Tanaka – I’m good for all of this as well.

Jordan Montgomery – I’m torn, but leaning sit here. He doesn’t have his breakers and his fastball command has been off for two starts. If he kills it against the Orioles, I could be convinced to start against the Sawx after, then assess for the Jays to finish the year.

Oakland Athletics

Oakland Athletics Expected Rotation

Team Notes: What a mess this is. The A’s have three doubleheaders in the next week and six regular starters. This will be wrong and I’m so sorry in advance. Whoever acts as the seventh starter is none of our interest.

Frankie MontasAn obvious sit for the Astros and let’s hope he does well enough to push us to start him against the Rangers after, and maybe even the Giants on the 19th.

Mike Minor – Sit for the Astros and Giants, but I’m in for the Mariners twice…if he gets them. WHO KNOWS.

Jesus Luzardo – Likely a start only for the Mariners…maybe a start for the Astros. I just don’t like his sinker, okay?

Sean Manaea – Sometimes the world makes your decisions for you. Feel free to drop Manaea.

Mike Fiers – Worth the stream vs. Texas but nothing else.

Chris Bassitt – That’s a lovely schedule, though I’d be cautious with the Giants.

Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia Phillies Expected Rotation

Zach Eflin – He’s currently sitting with 3 IP and 5 Ks with 1 ER against the Red Sox and I think that’s enough to start him against the Marlins next time, regardless of how this ends (watch me regret this later). No curveball, though, but basic Eflin should be fine in Miami. I’d likely sit for the rest, though, maybe let him loose for the Jays but I wouldn’t feel good about it.

Jake Arrieta – I’d feel icky starting him against the Marlins and I think that says a lot.

Spencer Howard – Maybe against the Marlins, but that’s it. He’s not complete yet as his changeup isn’t the pitch it needs to be yet.

Aaron Nola / Zack Wheeler – Always start and keep in mind that they may get shifted a little to get another start as they fight to keep their playoff spot – maybe a September 11th doubleheader start is Nola’s, for example.

Team Notes: So many doubleheaders and sadly two within four days of each other and starting after an off-day, messing everything up. It’s a lot of Vince VelasquezI’m sure and I want none of it.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh Pirates Expected Rotation

Joe Musgrove – I question if we’ll be comfortable with Musgrove in time for those final three starts, but monitor his velocity and breaking ball performances. It could work.

JT Brubaker – Worth consideration as a stream for CIN/CLE, but not a must-start at all there. I’d prefer not if I could.

Steven Brault – Not enough to offer.

Trevor Williams – I’m cool for Kansas City, but not the others unless I see major BSB Williams in KC.

Chad Kuhl – His sinker is getting worse and his slider isn’t saving him. No thanks.

Team Notes: There are a pair of doubleheaders that will likely include Derek Holland and another arm. Don’t think about it.

San Diego Padres

San Diego Padres Expected Rotation

Mike Clevinger / Dinelson LametAlways start them.

Zach Davies Yes for Rockie Road and the Mariners, but I’m out against the Dodgers and Giants. Well, if he’s still rolling after Seattle, then okay, I’ll trust his changeup for one more game. Likely not, though.

Chris Paddack This is a tough one as his fastball hasn’t been good and you’re not starting him against the Dodgers. I’m in for the Angels but the hot Giants lineup? Not so sure.

Garrett Richards – Nope, we can call it quits now. A desperate last week stream against the Angels for the upside, but not worth it for those deep in the mix.

San Francisco Giants

San Francisco Giants Expected Rotation

Logan Webb – That’s a decent stream against the Mariners, but that’s it here.

Tyler Anderson – This looks pretty, but he hasn’t capitalized in two straight starts against the Diamondbacks. I’d wait to see how he does against the Mariners on the ninth first.

Trevor Cahill – No thanks.

Johnny Cueto – Start for Colorado, sit for San Diego, and maybe if you’re desperate against the Athletics.

Kevin Gausman – GIVE ME ALL OF IT. He’s locked in right now, I don’t care where you’re from.

Seattle Mariners

Seattle Mariners Expected Rotation

Ljay Newsome – He’s questionable and that schedule does him no favors. No thanks.

Nick Margevicius – Ditto.

Yusei Kikuchi – Obviously in for the Diamondbacks, I think I’m still in for the Giants unless something major happens in Arizona. Houston then becomes a case-by-case situation.

Justus Sheffield – Give me Arizona, then nothing else.

Justin Dunn – I worry about his fastball and the Arizona start is a bit iffy for me. Definitely not anything else.

Marco Gonzales – He’s sporting a near 3.00 ERA with a sub 0.90 WHIP and I think you have to let him go against the A’s, sit for the Padres, and assess your options on the 26th.

St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis Cardinals Expected Rotation

Carlos Martinez – He was allowed to 80 pitches in today’s game (it was a clear Still ILL) and that makes me encouraged for the next three starts. Maybe wait one more if you like against the Reds, but I’m definitely in after vs. PIT and KC.

Jack Flaherty – Yes, duh.

Adam Wainwright – Wow, look at that schedule. I guess I’m in for all of it, though I don’t expect it to be smooth. His curveball has been brilliant this year.

Dakota Hudson – Even with his breakers not earning the whiffs I want these days, I think that schedule is too good to pass up.

Johan Oviedo – Sadly his stuff is too raw for me to trust he can take advantage of this schedule.

Team Notes: Like the Marlins, the Cardinals have many games to make up and they’ll use Austin Gomber, Daniel Ponce De Leon, and possibly others for these starts. The good news is their schedule is great regardless and while you won’t be starting these arms, you can keep the confidence with Waino/Hudson/etc.

Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay Rays Expected Rotation

Ryan Yarbrough – I wouldn’t trust him today (Still ILL) but I imagine the Nationals and Orioles, and maybe even the Phillies will be worth the start.

Josh Fleming – Even with the decent schedule, I’d stay away. I’m skeptical of his sinker/slider approach.

Blake Snell / Tyler Glasnow – Yes please. I wonder if Snell will get that fourth start as they prepare for the playoffs, though.

Charlie Morton – He’s still stretching out (57 pitches on Monday) and while his innings should be of quality, it won’t be a proper start until likely the 23rd. Plan accordingly.

Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers Expected Rotation

Lance Lynn – Start him always.

Kyle Cody / Kyle Gibson / Jordan Lyles / Kolby Allard – Absolutely not. Maybe Gibson for the Angels if he’s really jiving with his slider/changeup and gets his fastball command in order prior, but that’s doubtful.

Team Notes: There is one doubleheader on the 12th and I wouldn’t trust whoever is chosen for it. We could also see a rotation reset on the 18th in favor of an earlier Lynn start, but sadly there’s no path to five starts there as he’d be one day of rest short for the 27th.

Toronto Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays Expected Rotation

Taijuan WalkerHe gets the Yankees thrice over and that doesn’t sound great to me. I can imagine his start tonight working and maybe another after, but I wouldn’t over-do this. The Orioles are okay, though.

Tanner Roark – Nah, I think I’m passing here.

Ross Stripling – I wonder if the Jays do go full six-man and let him breathe. I’d sit for the Mets but he may be ready for the Phils and Yanks after if his curveball and changeup are working.

Chase Anderson – I’m definitely out. Capped ceiling and too low a floor.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – I want all of it. I don’t think he’ll get a fourth start as the Jays plan for a playoff run.

Robbie Ray – There’s no reason to believe now is when he’ll click. I’m out.

Washington Nationals

Washington Nationals Expected Rotation

Anibal Sanchez – I’m out, even for the start against Miami. He’s not the man of 2018.

Austin Voth – He finally earned some whiffs on secondary stuff, but the matchup isn’t there to take a chance.

Max Scherzer – Well, yeah. It’s Max.

Erick Fedde – Remember kids, Don’t Trust The Feddes. Seriously, not even against the Marlins.

Patrick Corbin – I’d sit for the Braves as his fastball command is out of whack. I imagine he can fix it for the Marlins and then would be a start against the Mets, but it’s sad you only have two games where you’d feel good starting Corbin right now.

Team Notes: There are a trio of doubleheaders as well, so monitor the starts. For the most part, it won’t get worse for Corbin and you’re starting Scherzer so it doesn’t matter a whole lot.

Conclusion

Are you debating between a pair of arms for your playoff run? Leave them in the comments and I’ll follow up later tonight/tomorrow. I sadly ran out of time and couldn’t craft a list of pitchers to avoid/grab due to their schedules, but I imagine a look through here will highlight many for you.

Good luck!

  1. Firtree baseball says:

The White Sox strike out a lot. I’m not so scared of them unless I’m a lefty.
Would you go Bassitt or Dobnak?

    • Nick Pollack says:

Good point about the White Sox, sadly I didn’t want to split them up based on handedness.

Can you split them up? Bassitt for the Rangers, then jump to Dobnak, then back to Bassitt.

  2. Gordon Shumway says:

I’m using Mahle for the 9/8 and 9/`13 starts. After that I plan to dump him? Who should I grab to replace him… P.Lopez, Boyd, Singer, Alcantara, Deivi?

    • Nick Pollack says:

      Hey Gordon,

That’s the plan! Let’s see how he finishes this start tonight before going forward with next time, but then I’d definitely drop him them.

Whoa…that’s a fantastic list of names! I’d suggest streaming if I could, dropping Mahle after this to pick up Alcantara for this next start and so on, including Pablo Lopez and Boyd in the mix. Maybe Deivi too.

  3. Matt says:

    This is awesome. Thank you.

  4. philliesman21 says:

Should I drop Heaney for Tanaka, Boyd, Alcantera or Hudson after his start against texas?

    • Nick Pollack says:

If you can pick and choose, I’d be rotating along.

Boyd for strikeout upside, Alcantara for overall ceiling, Hudson for ratios but low strikeouts, and Tanaka for overall floor.

  5. Randy says:

Do you think Dobnak gets dropped from the rotation after today in favor of Odorizzi?

  6. Bob Sacamano says:

    Love this. Super helpful. Thanks

  7. Kev says:

Thinking about dropping Urias and Dobnak in favor of Gausman and Dakota Hudson?

  8. Pedro says:

Drop one: Kikuchi, Boyd, Gausman, or Pablo Lopez

  9. Alex says:

    Hello Sir Nick.
I have Ian Anderson and Dakota Hudson at the tail end of my rotation, but Gausman is available: I think you’re gonna tell me to take him, but who would you drop?

  10. Steve says:

Hi Nick. Thanks for doing this. What makes you think that the twins are going to swap Pineda and Berrios this coming Sunday/Monday?

  11. Anooon says:

Thanks Nick! If you had to put your life on the line haha can you rank them in terms of preference -Brubaker, Milone, Means, Senzatela, Anibal, Dean?

    • Nick Pollack says:

Hey, no need to bring in an extreme circumstance!

Definitely not Senz-A or Anibal or Milone.

I can see it working with Dean, but I think it hinges plenty on the Yankees start.

Brubaker is a bench but a consideration for this next three. Means only has three left now and I’m not sold his performance yesterday is going to stick w/ lower velocity and still a little lacking on his changeup.

I think I lean Means > Kremer > Brubaker, though. It’s very close.

  12. Nick says:

Thanks for doing this Nick. My choice for next week comes down to:

    Kikuchi vs SF
    Duffy @ DET
    Montgomery @BOS
    Montas vs SF

    Any particular lean here?

  13. CJ says:

    This is awesome Nick.
Tough calls for me. Last in ERA in my AL roto. We have 4 man rotations and I have Montas, Luzardo, Civale, Pineda. Right now I’m just looking for win/k upside as ERA is lost. Would you drop Montas after this 2 start week for say Happ, Deivi, Singer or Urquidy? I’m debating trying to stream 2 start guys with some win potential. Looking at the schedule I’m also wondering if dropping Pineda makes sense.

    • Nick Pollack says:

Can we talk about it next week? We have to see how Deivi looks today + Singer against an easier opponent + if Urquidy gets his command back.

I understand the desire to drop Montas though, and it could be the way to go.

      • CJ says:

Looking at dropping Montas and trying to claim Deivi. With Montas not getting ks (afraid to use the Splitter) and having a 2nd start this weekend, he should only get 2 more starts (though in decent matchups). Of Pineda however has a start Sunday instead of 2 next week, he is a drop with that schedule and only 2 starts left.

What about handedness for team offense? For example, Dodgers blast RHP but are hitting .228/.324/.359, 91 wRC+ against LHP. It might be ok to start Luzardo and Heaney against the the Dodgers…

    • Nick Pollack says:

That may be something to consider and I’ll think about this for next week.

Ranking offenses is innately flawed to me as there is no excellent way of handling it. A month+ sample isn’t all that great.

  15. Orange WHIPs says:

Lugo over Corbin or Luzardo? I need quality innings most of all, I’m in WHIP purgatory.

    • Nick Pollack says:

Man that’s close, I think I still favor Luzardo, but Corbin really hasn’t been one to trust.

I’m going Lugo for all four, so if you have to pick one I guess it’s Lugo. I can’t believe I’m saying that.

Luzardo has the two best starts, though. If you can pick and choose, I’d emphasize those two starts vs. Seattle.

  16. Pat says:

Add Brady Singer or Dakota Hudson?

  17. Mike says:

Valdez or musgrove for the week 8 and 9? (Semifinal and final)

    • Nick Pollack says:

Musgrove was solid, but still on a limited pitch count. I think I’d favor Valdez’s easy schedule and hope that curveball comes back vs. Arizona and Seattle.

  18. Bill Corfield says:

Thoughts please on using Kim for the Cardinals once he’s back from the IR?

    • Nick Pollack says:

Good point! I should have mentioned that.

I’d imagine however he slides into the rotation, I’d be comfortable starting him…after his first start. It’s a super easy schedule for the Cardinals. I’d be cautious the first start though, as they usually come with a limited pitch count.

  19. theKraken says:

What a project! Thanks for the effort.

  20. David Fletcher Enthusiast says:

Hiya! I managed to get first seed in my league and got a bye! First year doing fantasy so I really appreciate all the work y’all do! Struggling to pick a 2 start pitcher that I can get a jump on for next week, Alcantra and Hudson are both taken in my league, thinking about Bielak, Teheran, Duffy, Deivi Garcia, or Tyler Anderson.

  21. Hernan de jesus says:

My rotation: Cole, Clevinger, Maeda,Sixto, Carrasco, Gallegos n Montero Lock. Expandable Mahle, R. Rodriguez n Fleming, how you play it ?

  22. DAN says:

Carlos Martinez or Ian Anderson ROS?

  23. Perfect Game says:

If you had to choose between Glasnow and Corbin Burnes ROS who would you take?

  24. Amy Tobey says:

Looking for help I have Spencer and evoldi
Wondering if I should go with pineda, dhudson, mahle,Carlos Martinez, Yarbrough instead

  25. Amy Tobey says:

    also boyd and Musgrove there.

  26. Donald Schuldt jr says:

Musgrove looked good before getting hit with the come backer. Would you take those starts to end the year?

  27. Alan says:

Hello. Love your stuff. Have the playoffs next week. From what I read Pineda should be a streamer not to keep him. Is that correct? Is Pablo Lopez a good stream on Mon after last night?

  28. Crow says:

I looked this over and available guys (Mahle, Urias, Gonsolin, Montas) do not appear to have a good slate next week for the semis. Any 2 start guys I may be overlooking next week?

  29. Cj says:

Looks like Pineda is pitching Sunday so will not have cws Monday unless rain out

  30. Adam says:

Love the pitcher list always helps with tough choices. We have to choose 7 starts for the week. Next week playoffs. I’m between woodruff vs STL Pineda @ chc Or Javier for my 7th. Love me some woodruff but only 3 qs all year. It’s a points league

    • Adam says:

Oh I also have Lugo. Looks like he’s got a double with Atlanta and TB. I can only choose 1 it’s a daily league.

      • CJ says:

I know I’m not Nick but I think you have to consider Lugo vs TB. They K a lot and made Kickham look like an Ace. He seems stretched out now too so should be able to go 6 if he doesn’t get into trouble and I could see a 6-8 k game

        • Adam says:

Thanks man yea I saw Pineda get moved but it looks like Lugo is only facing Atl next week and I can’t roll with that. Looking like Pineda @ Cubs it woodruff be stl

  31. Dave Hopson says:

    Great article!

Urias or Canning for next week? Thank you.

  32. Will says:

Hey, so like you, I was pretty pumped for Boyd’s ROS following 3 straight good outings and his remaining schedule. But then the implosion vs the Brewers… so I took a closer look at his ROS schedule and I no longer think it’s as great as we initially thought. Whit, Salvy and Dozier have crushed Boyd over the years (check out their career numbers against him) and Dozier in general mashes lefties. Mondesi also seems to have turned it around as of late. This with Boyd’s known implosion risks really makes me think he isn’t worth keeping around for his final 3 starts (although I still like his start against Cleveland). Thoughts?

  33. don says:

need a starter for Sunday: Morton, Happ, Dunn, C Martinez, Means, are available. Wins, stikeouts, whip and era are all in play for me this week.

  34. Aaron says:

Hi Nick, who would you start this week out of Lugo (vs. Phils), Carlos Martinez (vs. Pirates), or Davies (vs. Dodgers)? Leaning Martinez based on the matchup, but hoping for your thoughts. Thanks for putting this together–you helped me win my league last year with the RoS table!
