The List 9/16: Sit or Start For Every Remaining Starting Pitcher Matchup

We have two more weeks left of “The List”, with today marking the shift to a massive Sit/Start table for all remaining Starting Pitcher Matchups.

Huge props to Max Freeze for his excellent Sit/Start articles through the year and allowing me to take the reigns for the final two weeks.

Before we begin, remember, these matchups are subject to change. We even had changes from last night to today for Monday’s games (I’m looking at you Gausman) and you can expect plenty of these to change moving forward.

Still, this should be a great resource to focus on specific starts and plan out your weeks to get ahead of your opponents.

The massive table ahead of you has been color-coded:

Green = Just start this guy
Blue = Worthwhile, though the conservative owners could hold off
Amber = Not the worst option for desperate plays – some of these could be better in the final week if they showcase their upside in the short term
Red = Please don’t. This is unlikely to go well.

Do you really expect guys like Cole, Verlander, and Scherzer to make 3 more starts? Especially with Nats facing a WC game and likely having WC1 locked up…

  Agreed, I find it hard Cole would start Tuesday and then Saturday, unless you think its like a 2 inning appearance because of short rest.

  It’s still the same matchups for Verlander/Cole, but they would get pushed back, or skipped altogether to get them set up for Wednesday/Thursday.

Can you explain why Lamet gets the green light in Milwaukee? I get the strikeout upside but he seems to get pulled pretty quickly if he has any trouble.

  One could argue that in fantasy playoff matchups that can be a good thing. They won’t let him sit out there to kill your ratios if he doesn’t have it that day. That Brewers lineup is pretty pedestrian without Yelich too. Despite being on a hot streak, the team has an 83 wRC+ in the small sample since Yelich’s injury. Grandal, Moustakas, and Grisham are hot, but I don’t buy into Grisham and the rest of the offense has been abysmal.

Makes me nervous after bassit got knocked around and disco been pretty good over last 5 starts. But I trust the expert if thats what you say.

Thank you for including next week’s games. One of the benefits of Max’s articles was I could use them for deciding which pitchers to FAAB Sunday night. I couldn’t do that this week

Is Wainwright being underestimated? He was just fantastic against Scherzer and he seems to be holding his own against better than expected pitchers.
