Every Monday during the season, I will be releasing “The List” where I rank the current value of the Top 100 pitchers in fantasy baseball for the rest of the season. Use these rankings to help understand what to expect from pitchers for 2017 and as a tool to gauge trade value in your fantasy leagues.

Notes
- For just one week of the year, Chris Sale is sitting atop The List as Max Scherzer hits the DL and Clayton Kershaw needs one more week before returning to action. Feels good, doesn’t it?
- Few changes otherwise in the Top 30, with Justin Verlander and Jake Arrieta comfortably moving into the Top 20 as they have been impressive in the second half.
- The interesting tier stretches from #35 in J.A. Happ all the way to #51 in James Paxton. Here are my favorite arms that have been called Spice Girls across the season, as most bring plenty of value for their perceived value (though the trading deadline has most likely come and gone in your league). I can see all of them being targets for 2018, but as far as 2017 is concerned, they all are very close in value. Chase Anderson in particular could rise the most here, with Luis Castillo falling only because of his expected innings shutdown.
- Also in that tier are Patrick Corbin and Trevor Bauer who I’m believing in much more than I expected myself to be. Corbin has been getting elite whiff rates for a long stretch while Bauer is having plenty of confidence in a new Cutter/Slider that is returning for owners.
- The injury bug hit big time this week, with Jon Lester, Jacob Faria, and Reynaldo Lopez all falling significantly due to injuries. Meanwhile, Robbie Ray and Garrett Richards each moved up significantly as Ray returns this week and Richards returning in two weeks or so.
- Cole Hamels and Jeff Samardzija each took decent hits this week. Hamels is way too inconsistent with four of his last six games tallying 18 ER, while Samardzija just isn’t going to be the pitcher that his FIP and xFIP detail.
- Leaving The List this week are some clear candidates. Steven Matz is on the DL to make a bad year worse, Anthony Banda is soon to be displaced and was all kinds of atrocious in his last outing. Mike Leake, Jeremy Hellickson, and Brandon Woodruff simply aren’t good enough and were squeezed out by the other additions.
- The trio of Alex Cobb, Blake Snell, and Joe Biagini join the ranks again this week. Cobb is returning from injury, while Snell had his most dominant start of the year – yes the chances are slim that he sticks, you could take a worse flier in your league. Biagini is returning from a trip to the minors to start again for the Jays and it’s possible he exhibits the same upside he showed in the first half with a low walk rate, high groundball count, and surprising K upside.

I’m guessing we can tuck Nola into Maneasville #50 territory. Two clunkers v the Giants and Marlins. I’m sure the inevitable trip to the DL is forthcoming.
With Brandon McCarthy on his way back from injury, will he jump up the list in a big way like some other guys in their return (Richards, Ray), or has his value diminished with his month long absence?
Do I trust Chase Anderson against the Dodgers on Friday? Stats say he’s a cold matchup.
Or do I stream Carlos Rondon instead on Saturday?
I prefer the Rodon start over Anderson.
Big drop for Marquez. I know he hasn’t been great but 20 spots?
You know as much as any how volatile it gets past the 60s. Considering Marquez’s whiff rates have dropped dramatically, I’ve moved him behind a few Toby guys into ocassional streamer territory.
