Welcome to The List – The weekly top 100 rankings of starting pitchers in fantasy baseball for the rest of the season. Use this list to help make choices on the waiver wire and as a tool to gauge trade value in your fantasy leagues. These rankings are made with 5×5 H2H standard 12-team leagues in mind.

Let’s talk about how the SP landscape has changed since last week:

  • Here are this week’s relevant injuries: Blake Snell is out until this weekend, Stephen Strasburg’s timetable is still super confusing and take his spot with a grain of salt, Ross Stripling hit the DL with a toe injury in an act of Dodgeritis, and Noah Syndergaard is supposed to return on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Yu Darvish, Michael Fulmerand Eduardo Rodriguez are still off The List completely as their timetables are questionable and they are not Top 20 assets.
  • As expected, Nick Pivetta, Nick Kingham, Dylan Bundyand Shane Bieber all fell as they haven’t performed up to standards. They all carry heavy upside, but with their recent lack of execution, each needed their floors emphasized a bit more.
  • This week, past around the mid-60s is where I begin to throw up my hands in “I guess this guy could turn into something.” Please understand why there are so many shifts in the bottom third of The List – the SP Landscape is frustrating this year. Not nearly as many intriguing upside plays and plenty of shrugs fill wires these days. I can’t tell you why the crop of starters isn’t nearly as exciting as years past, but I can sure tell you it is.
  • With Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija on the DL, Derek Holland has a comfortable spot in the rotation, earning him a spot on The List given his recent changes.
  • German Marquez has earned a spot back on The List after five straight double-digit whiff marks. I wanted to add him last week, but a 5 spot didn’t help his case. After a solid outing last night, he’s added enough trust for a possible stream moving forward.
  • Clay BuchholzJunior Guerraand Drew Pomeranz have returned from injury and deserve spots once again.
  • I’ve moved up Kyle Freelandthough I still lack the faith that he can maintain a sub 4.00 ERA the rest of the way, which gets amplified by his low strikeout rate.
  • Tanner Roark got upset and threw a double-digit strikeout game, giving me no choice but to bring him back.
  • Despite not having a strong performance against the Rays, I still would consider Yonny Chirinos as a possible streamer moving forward as he returned from his minor league and DL stints.
  • Leaving The List were Daniel Poncedeleon and Austin Bomber (didn’t last in the Cards rotation), John Gant (still has a spot but hasn’t been worth your attention), Johnny Cueto (Injury), Reynaldo Lopez, James Shields, Pablo Lopez, and Tyson Ross (flat out bad).

  1. Steve says:

“Take his pot with a grain of salt”…I always enjoy my pot with some salt Nick, don’t worry!

  2. Sal says:

Hey. Any thoughts on Trevor Richards – SP – MIA? Is it worth taking a flier on this guy. He’s looked good over the last few.

    • Nick Pollack says:

I thought about it, but unfortunately I think he’s way too volatile even with his good changeup.

      Not for me.

  3. Bravos says:

I need to drop Bundy or Pivetta – I really can’t find much to separate the two. Any thoughts on who I will miss less?

  4. Derek says:

I’m in a dynasty keeper league…drop Teheran for Gohara, Touki, Ian Anderson or Kyle Wright? Having trouble sifting through who’ll be in the Braves rotation since Teheran looks not apart of the next run. Thanks!

  5. Scott says:

48 spot decrease for stripling seems to much. Yes he had 2 poor starts and is on the dl. But he’ll be back in 10 days and miss 2 starts. LAD just giving him a break and doing what they do…manipulate the dl.

    • Nick Pollack says:

If we knew that it was just one start and he’s back, then he’d be much higher.

Guys on the DL are always tricky to figure out. He was going to be right at #30 until I heard the DL news.

  6. Benjamin Pernick says:

I swear it’s not just out of love/pity for the Tigers, but I think Matt Boyd may need revisiting on this list. He has a 21/3 K/BB over his last 17 innings and despite his awful Cherry Bomb run, still sports a FIP under 4, an scFIP of 3.36 and a bbFIP of 3.20. I need hope!

    • Nick Pollack says:

Too small of a sample for me to buy it. Each one of those guys at the end of The List has a case to be a streamer and I just don’t see Boyd being someone I can trust on a given night.

      Sorry Pernick.

  7. Chip says:

When Hyun-Jin Ryu returns from the DL next month, where do you think he will land on the list?

  8. AL says:

    Grade the Trade:

    Give up Quintana and Bundy
    Get back Porcello and Gibson

  9. Joshua says:

Which side would you prefer ROS (standard roto categories): (a) Skaggs or (b) Price & Hendricks?

  10. Fletch.F.Fletch says:

Do the rankings change at all after all of today’s trades? I assume Archer moves up because he’s not only out of the AL East but he’s in the NL. Do we have to wait till Monday to find out? ha

Thanks again for all you do Nick.

  11. RyanF says:

Vince Velasquez or Jon Gray ROS?
