- Andres Munoz has strung together two consecutive positive weeks, with 3 holds, 6 Ks and just three baserunners allowed over 5 IP. It’s safe to say he has moved in front of Trey Wingenter as the Padres secondary set up man, and with his swing-and-miss stuff, he could be a difference maker for owners down the stretch. Although he’s been displaced as the closer in Atlanta, Luke Jackson has still been impressing for the Braves since the trade deadline. Despite only having 2 holds the past two weeks, he was able to rack up 11 Ks while allowing just 2 BBs and 4 hits over 7.1 IP.
- There’s nothing really special in his profile, but Sam Tuivailala continues to pile up the holds, with 4 over the past two weeks and 6 for the month. The Mariners schedule isn’t too daunting over the last month of the season, so Tuivailala could be worth a look. Trevor May seems to have gotten things together over the past month and while he only has 2 holds this past week, he seems to be climbing up the depth chart. He has a 14:3 K:BB rate over the past month, while allowing just 4 hits over 11.1 IP.
- It’s been a tough year for Pedro Strop as he has fought multiple injuries while being mostly ineffective on the field. For now, it looks like he is on the outside looking in for hold chances, as the past two months have not gone well for him (17 H, 7 BB, over 14 IP). The same can be said about Shawn Kelley, who has allowed 18 hits over his past 10 IP, while recording just 1 hold over the past two months.
- Last night’s outings for both Blake Treinen and Diego Castillo may have put an end to any hope of fantasy relevance the rest of the season. Treinen entered a tie game in the 7th inning last night and proceeded to allow two hits, a walk and then another hit before getting pulled without recording an out. He is way down the totem pole for potential holds in Oakland now. Castillo allowed 3 hits and a walk over an inning last night and has just 1 hold to his name over the past month.
