- Nick Anderson gets a bump up into the second tier as he seems to have locked up the primary setup role behind closer Emilio Pagan. Since moving to the Rays, Anderson has only allowed one baserunner over six innings, a hit in his first appearance, while striking out 14. After battling injury and then suspensions, Keone Kela finally should be locked into the Pirates’ top setup role moving forward. Despite the poor start to the season, Kela has come back strong with a 7:1 K/BB rate and just two hits allowed over five innings. Walks continue to be a big issue for Derek Law, but splitting save chances with Ken Giles isn’t. Despite the walks, Law has pitched much better over the past month, allowing just six hits while striking out 15 over 14.2 innings.
- While it’s still unclear just who is the closer in Atlanta at the moment, I still believe the odds-on favorite is Luke Jackson for now with some Mark Melancon sprinkled in. Melancon hasn’t been great since the move to Atlanta, or for any stretch this year quite frankly, but at least finds himself in an opportunistic situation. Chaz Roe hasn’t quite fixed the command issues that plagued him earlier on in the season, but he’s been good enough to work his way back into a setup role for the Rays.
- This late in the season, I think it’s safe to give up on the 2019 season for Blake Treinen. Those in dynasty formats should still hold on in hopes he can regain his 2018 form in 2020. Diego Castillo continues to struggle to limit baserunners and now finds himself behind Chaz Roe, Nick Anderson, Colin Poche, and possibly even Oliver Drake in the holds pecking order.
After last night’s blow up, Pressly’s second half ERA is up to 9.39. Do we still trust him? It seems like he’s still fighting with injury or something.
