The 5 Best MLB Moments from Thursday

The best of Thursday!

Happy, happy Friday! Yesterday was yet another beautiful day in the MLB universe. Not only did we have an excellent slate of baseball games, but we also had some incredible blockbuster trades with some very notable names exchanging teams. Here is a shortlist of players that either moved teams or were very close to moving teams as of yesterday:

  1. Max Scherzer
  2. Trea Turner
  3. Anthony Rizzo
  4. Kyle Schwarber
  5. Daniel Hudson
  6. Danny Duffy
  7. Diego Castillo

That doesn’t even include some of the better-known prospects that switched teams in return for those prominent MLB players, like Josiah Gray and Keibert Ruiz

Whether your team is acquiring superstars, trading them away, or standing pat, I hope you’re enjoying the frenetic pace of the deadline and, of course, the actual baseball being played.

The Trop Swallows Another

You either love Tropicana Field (“The Trop”) or you hate it. This account left no ambiguity in its opinion:

The catwalks have created some very interesting moments across Rays games. Yesterday was no exception, as Randy Arozarena put one into the catwalks but didn’t realize it right away. Cowering under his bat, Arozarena was just hoping he wouldn’t get hit by the ball returning to earth! Nobody else knew where it was, either.

Defensive Wizardry

Holy cow, José Iglesias!

David Fletcher and Iglesias nearly turned the double play of the year here.

Iglesias isn’t always on his game, having made some puzzling errors this season, but when Iglesias is completely on his game, there’s not a ball hit his way that can’t be turned into an out.

Slam Diego is Not Just a Moniker, It’s a Lifestyle

Don Orsillo called this one perfectly.

This bomb wouldn’t have been complete without the ultra-high leg kick and ultra-cool bat flip.

Don Orsillo had the opportunity to call a real MLB home run later in the game, too:

The Six Brings the Drip

We have the home run chain in San Diego and the Panda hug in Atlanta. Now, we have a home run jacket, which may be the coolest of them all:

Something tells me we’re going to be seeing Vladito in that jacket many more times this season.

Position Players Not Named Ohtani on the Mound

We were blessed yesterday to see not just one position player on the mound, but two! John Nogowski, unfortunately, jacked up his ERA to 13.50, allowing 3 ER in 1 inning. Meanwhile, Kevin Plawecki pitched a completely clean inning, lowering his career ERA to a respectable 5.40.

Enjoy your weekend! Watch some MLB baseball and some Olympic baseball too!
