Sit/Start Week 3: Reviewing All Starting Pitcher Matchups From 4/15-4/21

Max Freeze covers and advises on all starting pitchers matchups for week 3 (4/15-4/21).

Welcome to Sit/Start where, every Saturday here at Pitcher List, I review all expected starting pitcher matchups for the week ahead. There are three labels: StartMaybe, and Sit. Outings marked with a Maybe are circumstantial and dependent on your needs in a standard 5×5 Wins 12-teamer, while the other two are self-explanatory. You’ll notice a few question marks next to some of the names. These are either probable starters that have not been confirmed or are pitchers who may be subject to an opener. Feel free to question my designations in the comments and we’ll dive into it together.

Here’s the massive table containing every Week 1 start from 4/15 – 4/21:

  1. John R Gilliland says:

Which 2 would you start from these 5. Aaron Sanchez, Freeland, Urias, Turnbull, Kelly

  2. Ben says:

Are they skipping E-Rod next week?

    • Max Freeze says:

The spot start for Hector Velazquez is throwing things off. E-Rod would be scheduled for the start @TB on 4/19 and push Sale’s start on the 21st to the next week. I’m encouraged by E-Rod’s last start, but TB is tough. He’s a maybe but I’d lean towards starting him.

  3. Max Fried says:

Which ATL pitchers are likely to start on 4/20 and 4/21 against CLE and are they starts? Currently it just says Fried for both.

  4. Max Freeze says:

Touki will likely take one of those starts since Wright & Newcomb were sent down. There’s a possibility of a bullpen game as well.

  5. Li says:

You’re missing E-Rod’s start against TB. Would you start or sit him?

    • Max Freeze says:

I’m encouraged by his last start. He’s giving up less contact and his strikeout rate looks good. He’s been killed by a high HR rate and BABIP and he’s not getting ahead of hitters. At this point he’s a high-risk, high-reward start vs TB.
