Ranking All of Today’s And Tomorrow’s SP Matchups – 4/16 & 4/17

Nick Pollack ranks every starting pitcher matchup for today's and tomorrow's games.

Here are your morning rankings for today’s starting pitcher options.

It’s not perfect and will be far from the actual results at the end of the day, though it should give guidance for those questioning who to slot into your lineup on a given day.

Note: I’ve made a change moving forward to this daily article. I’ll now be including a second table for tomorrow’s starting pitcher matchups as well, helping everyone get a jump on their nightly pickups. Please note that these matchups are subject to change, though, and there will be times when I have the incorrect pitcher going. I thank you for your future understanding.

Pitchers highlighted in yellow = Possible streaming options.

FS = False Starter where there is an assumed opener actually starting the game.

Red = Postponed.

  1. Mike says:

Are you that confident in Wheeler at Philly tomorrow or more a lack of better options to go above him? Seems like a super risky matchup and I’m a big fan of his.

  2. Rags says:

Pts League. I need three starts between Pablo Lopez vs ChC, Strahm vs Cin, Stripling @ Mil, Caleb Smith vs Was, and Merrill Kelly @ ChC.

Or I can drop one or two of these guys (PabLo and/or Strahm I guess?) for Turnbull, Hellickson, or Jordan Lyles.

Are PabLo and Strahm just streamers at this point?

  3. Butch says:

Have you heard anything of the like that the Dodgers are limiting Buehler to 5 innings/game this season?

  4. Ryan says:

    Start Happ against Boston tomorrow?

  5. PitcherList Superfan says:

Hey Nick! Was going to stream Williams tomorrow in my 8 teamer against the lowly Tigers, but I see that you have Keller and Gausman ranked above him. Why is that? I see the ChiSox and Arizona offense as more dangerous than Detroit’s.

  6. Wil says:

Hey Nick! I commented about Margevicius last week and I know you’re very down on him (despite a sub-1.25 BB rate throughout his career!). I was able to trade him to another fantasy owner (who is our league’s version of the old scouts in the movie Moneyball) for Trevor Richards and Raimel Tapia. What is the percent chance that I lose this 2 for 1 deal? Based upon my daily reading of PitcherList, I’d say 5%? Why are Richards’ projected ERA/FIP/WHIP so high on Fangraphs?

    Thanks as always!

  7. Thomas says:

Comfortable starting Sonny Gray tomorrow vs the Dodgers?

  8. Dave says:

A bit surprised how much higher you have Flaherty ranked than McHugh tonight. My league has a starts limit and I’m opting to use McHugh over Flaherty tonight based on the matchup. Am I crazy for doing so or is it close enough to where it would be viable to do this?

    • Ryan says:

Same sentiments here especially against Mil. I would start McHugh over Flaherty. McHugh has a hot matchup against Oak anyways to help ease your mind; you’re not crazy.

      85 AB with 18 hits, 3 HRs, 9 RBIs, 6 BB, 24 Ks, .212 AVG, .280 OBP

    • Ryan says:

And now that I look at it Flaherty also has a hot matchup against Mil too with comparable stats as McHugh has against Oak.

Mil is pretty hot right now, but both offenses are comparable.

      Tough call.

      • TheKraken says:

Dont overthink it. The best planning doesnt help a lot more often than not. Teams are more than thier stats and it all varies from day to day.

  9. TheKraken says:

First 8 men to the plate scored today v matz. Ouch!

  10. Tal says:

Love the site in general and enjoy this new segment. Any chance you can add an “only if you are desperate” line to devide the list so we would all know what Pitchers to leave in the wire even if they are available?
