R.A. Dickey’s Knuckleball – We haven’t had too many mind-blowing Knucklers from Dickey this year, but this one is certain to get you excited. This pitch changes direction multiple times on its way to the plate, leaving Jayson Werth with just air as he swings at a pitch right down the middle.
Kirby Yates’ Changeup – It was a big spot for Yates during a grueling at-bat against DJ LeMahieu, but he ultimately won with a Changeup that dropped off the table to the Rockies infielder. Notice how the pitch started well inside the zone before falling off the plate in a blink of an eye.
Pedro Strop’s Fastball – This isn’t as flashy as other pitches we’ve seen from Strop, but there’s something sexy about it. Strop gets 97mph behind this Fastball with a touch of late movement right on the inside corner to get a whiff from Ryan Braun and I can’t stop watching it.
Tyler Lyons’ Slider – It’s never easy fanning Joey Votto, especially on a pitch he believes was located out of the zone. Lyons putaway the Reds’ All-Star on a Slider that curled back over the plate while barely nipping the top of the zone. That’s a pitcher’s pitch.
Jake Arrieta’s Changeup – Arrieta didn’t have the overwhelming start that we’ve seen in the past, but he made good pitches to keep the Cubs in the game. Our favorite was with his rarely thrown Changeup that featured plenty of tumbling action, diving under the bat of Neil Walker at the last moment.
