Prospect Wars: The Top 100 Pitching Prospects

Travis Scherer and Adam Lawler look at the top 100 pitching prospects.

Travis Sherer and I have taken an immeasurable amount of minutes and a lot of thought (comparatively speaking to our normal amount of thinking) into the list below. Travis published an article yesterday discussing how we developed our lists and what went into our less-than-scientific formulas. Later this week, we will each release a piece highlighting some names in which we differed – for better or worse – to provide some additional in depth analysis on the arms below.

Also, in case you are interested, here’s the plan for our releases over the next two weeks:

Prospect Wars Schedule: Methodology Rankings Travis’ Ranking Highlights Adam’s Ranking Highlights On the Farm Podcast
Top 100 Pitchers June 24 June 25 June 26 June 27 June 28
Top 100 Hitters July 1 July 2 July 3 July 4 July 5

So here it is, without further adieu:

Excellent stuff. Glad that I’ve been holding onto Mac Gore all season. My hope is that he doesn’t pitch at all until next season. Would love to keep him as a long term hold until then and plug him as an NA keeper to start next season free of charge.

Any chance you guys do a revamped top 100 or 200 dynasty asset article similar to what y’all did in April? Would love to see a full staff consensus on the top 200 dynasty assets going forward.

    • Travis Sherer says:

Hey Wes. Thanks for reading! Gore probably isn’t called up until sometime next season. The Pads are being really careful with him. If they weren’t he’d already be in Double-A.

I’m putting out an updated top 100 dynasty asset series early next month. Stay tuned!

Awesome work guys. One suggestion: I know you’re releasing articles about players where you differed, but it might be helpful to have a column in the table from the difference between your rankings. It would give a nice easy way of identifying interesting differences of opinion.

    • Mike says:

Good suggestion. Not sure this is going to format correctly in the comments section but here’s the list sorted by ranking difference descending. When a player was UR by one guy, I just assigned them 101. Last column is the spread.

  3. Mike says:

Interesting Zac Gallen is 45 on Nick’s List and still only 40 on this list.

    • Adam says:

I’m interested in seeing what’s going on in Miami player development wise. Between Gallen, Lopez, and Smith there may be something there. Still, Nick ranks based on this year. Attrition with pitchers is part of Gallens ranking. More importantly, we’re looking at rankings in a slightly different lens. I’m seeking upside and long term value. I’m convinced that Gallen has a role on an MLB roster, but he’s not this good.

  4. BB says:

Even as a Plesac owner I can understand the disrespect, but could you at least spell one of his names correctly? ?

  5. Jason says:

Adam et al. Finding it laborious to trawl through MILB pages to track how a minor league player is performing (especially hard for pitchers when probable starts are fluid). Is there a tool/website where you can flag select minor league players and it will email you their boxscore results after each appearance?

  6. BJ says:

Spencer Jones.. the guy who got released in March?
