Armenteros’ fastball sits at about 91 mph and carries some rough Statcast metrics (22nd-percentile velocity, 6th-percentile spin) like an albatross. But command plays big as part of Armenteros’ game, finding the zone on 52.2% of his heaters.
Scouts grade Armenteros’ changeup as the best pitch in his arsenal, and the tumbling offspeed pitch had workmanlike efficiency during the rookie’s 18-inning cup of coffee with the Astros, generating a 14.7% swinging-strike rate and a 38.7% chase rate.
Armenteros doesn’t get a whole heck of a lot of spin on his curveball: Baseball Savant marks it down in the 19th percentile in terms of spin rate. Still, with a robust 37.5% K-BB rate and refusing to relinquish a single free pass, the curve is a decent option going into his second season with the big club.
