Garcia’s curveball sat at 77.7 mph and showed well below-average movement. Of the 11 curveballs he threw last year, only two were inside the zone (18.2%), and only one drew a swing out of the zone.
Rico Garcia threw just six innings last year in his debut. His changeup sat at 80.7 mph, just about 10 mph below his fastball. It showed below-average drop and horizontal movement, and it tallied a whiff rate of just 18.2%.
Garcia’s fastball averaged 90.4 mph and topped out at 93.9 mph. It didn’t show much swing-and-miss ability, tallying just a 3.3% swinging-strike rate. Poor commmand of the fastball in the middle of the zone cost Garcia, as the pitch surrendered an ugly .587 xwOBA in a very small 61-pitch sample.
