Another effective pitch, Sandoval held hitters to a wRC+ of just 57 with his changeup in 2019. The pitch averages 84 mph and has good arm side run with a large amount of vertical break. He obtained a K% of 30.2% so look for Sandoval to continue to use his offspeed pitches more frequently in 2020.

Sandoval’s curveball was extremely effective in 2019, limiting opponents to a wRC+ of just 3! The pitch averages 78 mph and has nice tight break. The pitch generated a 41.2% K%, so it is very surprising Sandoval only throws it 13% of the time. Look for him to heavily increase his curveball usage in 2020.

Thrown just over 9% of the time, Sandoval gave up 2 HRs off of sliders in just 21 ABs. The pitch averages almost 87 mph and has good downward break, with little to no horizontal movement. Despite this, Sandoval also was able to get hitters to hit it on the ground a lot, as the pitch obtained a GB% of 76.9%

Sandoval’s fastball averaged 93 mph and topped out at 96 mph. He threw the pitch over 46% of the time and was able to generate a K% of 15.4%, which is the exact same as his BB%. Look for him to limit these walks in the future as he continues to establish himself in the majors.
