Ramirez’s arm angle allows for great vertical movement against his fastball producing a whiff rate close to 20% and a K rate over 35%.
The sling shot action of Ramirez’s arm with the side angle must help decieve hitters as his swinging strike rate doubled despite a drop in velocity on his fastball. With that increase in whiffs, he got his K rate to 30% on the fastball. However, he did allow over 60% fly balls.
Ramirez’s sinker is his primary pitch. He took a step forward with it in 2018 by reducing his walk rate and increasing his ground-ball rate. He needs to keep hitters from putting this pitch in the air to see further success.
Ramirez’s curveball has room to improve. He allows too much good contact resulting in a dangerous amount of home runs.
With his fantastic changeup, Ramirez is able to get batters to chase out of the zone nearly 50% of the time. Because of this, he rarely throws it for a strike. Yet he induces a 20% whiff rate and nearly 40% strikeout rate.
