Zimmer only threw his changeup 21 times this past season. It averaged just under 88 mph and showed below-average movement. It was thrown in the zone 42.1% of the time, but only earned a 16.7% chase rate.
Zimmer’s curveball showed above-average drop, but returned a pretty unexciting 7.3% swinging-strike rate and a 16.2% chase rate across a small 55-pitch sample.
Zimmer only threw 18.1 IP in 2019. His fastball showed excellent velocity, averaging a robust 96.4 mph. But opposing hitters didn’t seem to mind much, as they tee’d off on the pitch to the tune of a .385 batting average and .444 wOBA.
Zimmer featured his slider quite a bit last year (25.7% usage) and it’s easy to see why. It returned a stellar 23.4% swinging-strike rate (44.8% whiffs) and an excellent chase rate of 41.9%. He also threw it in the zone at a very respectable 34% clip.
