Allard’s change was employed almost exclusively against right-handed batters in 2019, and generated few strikes for him with a 33.3% zone and 21.4% chase rate. Showing middling drop and arm-side fade, hitters were not able to square it up, thanks to good velocity separation (10.8 mph), and only managed a .175 wOBA.

The curve was not a big part of Allard’s arsenal in 2019 (5.4%), but it did flash some decent drop and more vertical plane than its slider/cutter counterpart. With a .708 wOBA and 8.9% SwStr rate, it doesn’t appear to be on the verge of becoming a featured pitch for him.

Allard’s four-seamer allowed a wOBA of .350 in the 46.4% of the time it was used in 2019, and while it generated some whiffs (7% SwStr rate), it was not often employed as a putaway pitch. It has middling velocity (92.4 mph) with average rise and good arm-side run.

Allard’s most effective strikeout pitch, the slider/cutter comes in at 87.7 mph and shows little depth, but excellent cutting action, and Allard employs it equally against batters of both hands. It was hittable in the zone in 2019 (50.7% zone rate, 90.7% Z-Contact) but totalled a 9.7% SwStr% thanks to a 35.8% chase rate and a 63.3% O-Contact.

Allard’s fastball averaged 89.4 mph and topped out at 91 mph. Across 8.0 IP (100 total fastballs thrown) it recorded a meager 10.6% whiff rate and was hit exceedingly hard to the tune of a .610 wOBA and .519 batting average allowed.

Allard’s second pitch, the changeup, was fairly nondescript across a very small 39-pitch sample. It had a 25% whiff rate and showed slightly above-average drop at 35 inches (33 was league average) and below-average horizontal movement away from a righty at 11 inches (average horizontal movement was 14 inches).

The Lefty Brave prospect Allard threw only eight not-so-good innings last year (12.38 ERA). His curve was easily his third pitch at 13.7% usage. He did not get any swings and misses with it across a small 22-pitch sample.
