Yates threw his slider all of ten times this past season so it’s not an appreciable part of his arsenal. It showed below-average movement and did not record a swing and miss.

Yates throws a 94 mph four-seamer that flashes nice tail arm side. He possess great control of his fastball as he generated a high rate of infield fly balls at 31.3%, and lowered his BB% by 3% while he kept his K% above 27%.

I know the definition of a Money Pitch is 40+% O-swing rate, 40+% zone rate, and a 15+% swinging-strike rate, but can an exception be made for Yates’ splitter? 25.7% swinging-strike rate, 56.3% O-swing rate, a 46.6% K rate, and somehow a low 4.2% BB rate as he only throws this pitch in the zone around 27.6% of the time. He dominated hitters in 2018 with this pitch.

Yates does not throw this pitch late in counts as a strikeout or walk was not credited to this pitch. He uses this pitch in the zone (57.5% zone rate) to set up his splitter outside of the zone, but this slider does boast a high swinging-strike rate at 19.2%.
