Pazos threw 10 successful innings with the Rockies in 2019 on the back of his 94 mph fastball. His 11.8% swinging strike rate helped get him seven Ks in 30 plate appearances with this pitch. He kept batters to a .261 wOBA against with the fastball as well.
Pazos’ other main tool is his slider. He takes a lot off of this pitch compared to the fastball. He generated a solid 17% swinging strike rate with a 31.3% O-swing in the limited times we got to see this pitch in 2019. We did see similar output on this pitch in previous seasons as well.
Pazos’ main offering, the four-seamer performed well (6.0 pVal) despite the velocity ticking down for the second straight season (96.3 mph in 2016, 93.8 mph in 2018). The pitch made some serious improvements on the batted-ball front, with HR/FB% decreasing from 25.0 to 9.8, and IFFB% increasing from 14.3 to 31.7.
Pazos’ main offspeed pitch, the slider had a -1.4 pVal and held a very below-average 7.6 SwStr% and 14.3 O-swing%.
