Pagan sometimes tosses a curve in to mix things up. However, with only 23 pitches thrown and a fastball-slider combo that he employs, the curve does not really matter.
In Pagan’s first year as a Ray, he took a huge step forward with his fastball. He started throwing it harder and got a ton more whiffs especially out of the zone. This led to an insane 42.1% K rate on the fastball. His one weakness was the home run, allowing eight over 670 pitches.
Pagan combines his wicked fastball with a solid 87 mph slider, inducing nearly 50% ground balls and striking out 27.9% of hitters. He gets a 17.4% swinging strike rate, but what set his 2019 slider apart from this pitch in prior years was a 44.9% O-swing rate, 15 points higher than previous years.
