His bread-and-butter pitch, Paddack throws his low-spin changeup as his most common secondary offering. His 16.5% swinging-strike rate on it was elite, and he was able to get loads of ground balls thanks to its use down and below the zone.

The curve is not Paddack’s most widely used secondary pitch and could have been a bit more effective. He threw it in the zone over 40% of the time, which he may need to change if he is looking to get batters to chase and get more whiffs than the 6.3% swinging strike rate he had.

Paddack has a stellar fastball that can reach over 98 mph. He struck out nearly 30% of batters with the heater, getting a swinging strike rate of 10.2%. He was also able to limit hits and walks significantly on the fastball, and even kept the ball in the park with a 15% HR/FB rate.

Paddack has thrown his fastball about 60% of the time and it comes in at mid-90s velocity topping out at 97 mph. Hitters have a tough time so far keeping up with Paddack’s heat, and have yet to record a hit in 17 ABs.

Paddack’s secondary offering is his changeup which he throws at 84 mph. So far hitters haven’t done well against the pitch, hitting just .222 against it.

The third pitch in Paddack’s arsenal is his curveball, which he’s only thrown 14 times. In one at-bat he’s surrendered a double with the pitch.
