While Boxberger lost some velocity on the fastball, he also took off a few ticks on the change up. It remained as effective missing bats but it generated more groundballs
Boxberger lost a good amount of velocity in 2019 not even reaching over 93 mph on any pitch. However, it was still decently effective for such a fastball generating few hits and getting almost 30% strikeouts.
Boxberger did not throw this slider as often as his others. It is not nearly as effective not once using it to strike anyone out. It is well hit far too often to be an effective slider.
Boxberger’s fastball performed adequately as his main option. It did not particularly do anything to stand out, but a .347 wOBA allowed on a fastball is not the end of the world.
The changeup was key for Boxberger last season. The pitch posted a solid 13.5% whiff rate while inducing a swing out of the zone 37.0% of the time. It performed well on contact, allowing just a .390 slugging percentage and recording 47.2% ground balls.
Boxberger utilized his slider just 30 times in 2018. He struggled to command it in the strike zone, making the pitch a non-option for him.
