Thankfully, Wojciechowski only threw his changeup 2.25% of the time. In the 33 changeups he did throw, the pitch surrendered the same number of home runs (two) as whiffs. The wOBA on Wojciechowski’s changeup was a whopping 1.044, the 39th worst mark in the MLB. Despite that, he threw it in the zone 70% of the time. It might be time to shelve the pitch or stop putting it in the zone so often.
Wojciechowski’s fastball averages 91.9 mph and was his most thrown pitch (53.9%). His velocity on the pitch was in the 29th percentile, but he allowed a respectable .252 average against it and was at the 50th percentile in xBA. While not overpowering, it induced a 47.2% swing rate but just an 8.5% swinging-strike rate. With just a 18.2% K rate, he used the pitch to the benefit of his curveball.
Statcast classifies this as a slider. It is the pitch he throws with the lowest zone percentage (38%), lowest BAA (.231), and lowest wOBA (.271). It is also Wojciechowski’s pitch with the lowest effective velocity (83.8 mph). Wojciechowski very rarely throws any of his pitches down and in to right-handers, but he did not throw a single slider down and inside to RHBs in 2019.
