Dynasty format is my favorite way to do fantasy baseball. I like taking a prospect after he’s drafted and seeing him through the minors and into the majors. I’ve been in one dynasty league since 2012 and have built through my minors a young core of players, Trea Turner, Alex Bregman, Kyle Schwarber, Carlos Rodon, Jeff Hoffman, Dansby Swanson, among others. It takes a lot of work going through all the scouting prospect grades, minor league stats, and blog postings to find a gem but its rewarding. I am here to save you that time by presenting you my latest project. The project I am unveiling here is the list of the Top 30 prospect by Organization according to MLB Pipeline. No longer do you have to click on all 30 teams to see all 900 players. This will allow you to find players not on a top 100 list. Cant find a prospect to add to your team? Filter the age and find the next crop of players that can be in the mid season top 100 list. There are a number of ways to use this to find guys, so make sure you let me know what you like or what you’d like to see in future updates. You can also publish this to your league page on ESPN. The code is below. Before we get to the visualization, I wanted to go over a few points.
- Age is a decimal. If you type in 20 in the max age filter, it will only give you players younger than that age. This keeps it from rounding up. I suggest filtering ages by .5, etc 20.5 or younger.
- Rankings Filter: You can view all 900 players, Only Top 100 from MLB Pipeline, or filter by players not on the top 100
- Position Filter: Some players play multiple positions, in this case, I grouped the players by the first listed position. Example: Player has 2B/SS, I moved that player into the 2B position. If you sort by SS they will not be listed. There were 28 different position combination, this isn’t perfect but it was my quick fix.
- Use the list selection to filter between position players and pitchers.
- Each Column has a sort button. Use this to sort the players by Overall, or their scouting grades. Want to see the LHP with the best Fastball? Select the pitcher list in the List Selector, LHP in the position Filter and then sort by fastball. The best LHP Fastballs are by AJ Puk and Sean Newcomb.

You can hover over the players scouting grades to see additional information. With pitchers, there wasnt enough space to post every single pitch, if you hover over the player, you can see the grades some some additional pitches they have. Other information thats provided:
- Height/Weight
- Age
- Team
- Scouting Grade
- Position
- Bats/Throws
Post the Viz to your League Page
Copy and paste the code below into your ESPN League page and you can have this on your actual fantasy league page. I have plans to update the list throughout the year so you can stay up to date with your prospect information.

About 10 years ago Lindy’s Sports Baseball Magazine had scouting reports (like yours above) of all the major league players. I used it to draft my fantasy team that year and dominated the whole year. Lindy’s discontinued it the next year and I’ve never seen anything like it since. I imagine scouting grades vary from scout to scout, but I’d love to find something like that for current major league players. Any ideas?
Nic Gardiner- this is a great page and although i am too old to get into fantasy stuff, i can use this to teach young pitchers. is there anyway that you could put the stop/slo-mo thing on these visuals. Thanks for your work.
