Today’s Headlines

Sticky Situation

Domingo Germán was ejected from the game after failing a foreign substance check going into the bottom of the fourth inning. The substance was initially spotted on his pants. German faces a 10-game suspension. Just last month, German was asked to wash rosin off his hands but was allowed to stay in the game facing the Twins.

Knee Discomfort for Vlad Jr.

Vladimar Guerrero Jr. will undergo an MRI after leaving Tuesday’s game due to right knee discomfort. The injury became apparent after fielding a bunt from Gleyber Torres in the eighth inning. When asked, Blue Jays manager John Schnieder said “We’ll see how he feels tommorrow. Hopefully good news.”

Pitching Struggles

The Giants are moving a struggling Sean Manaea to the bullpen. Manaea signed with the Giants in 2022 with a two-year, $25 million contract after coming off a career-worst season with the Padres. Manaea owns an ERA of 7.96 and 1.77 WHIP throughout eight starts. In his most recent start, he gave up eight runs, four of which were earned, to the Nationals in just 2 2/3 innings. According to Gabe Kapler, Manaea will now be used as a long relief pitcher.

It’s Raining Boos

Justin Verlander was booed after his debut at Citi Field against the Rays. Verlander ended his night allowing six runs on eight hits, two walks, and only two strikeouts in five innings.

Retirement After 16 Seasons

Aníbal Sánchez took to Instagram to announce his retirement. Sanchez is known for a World Series win in 2019 with the Nationals, and making it to the postseason five times. Sanchez missed 2021 due to a cervical nerve impingement and was unable to throw again until July 2022. He was unsigned in the first six weeks of the 2023 season.
