Cubs fly the W in Iowa

The Cubs defeated the Reds in a 4-2 game amongst the corn. Brandon Hughes kept the Reds from scoring in the last two innings despite a late Reds rally. The game was special, and I’ll have plenty of moments throughout this article.

Magical moments in Iowa

The Field of Dreams game opened with Vin Scully reciting the most famous scene from the movie. Just days after his passing, his voice was a comforting reminder of why baseball is the best.

The Griffeys have a catch 

Vin Scully didn’t make you shed a tear? Here is another heartwarming video for you.

Harry Caray sings at the Field of Dreams

Yes, you read that right. A Harry Caray hologram performed “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch in Iowa. It was met with very mixed reviews.

Guardians sweep to extend win streak

The Guardians swept the Tigers, extending their win streak to five. The game ended in 10 innings after a go-ahead run with a two-out single from Oscar Gonzalez. The Guardians currently lead the AL Central and increased their lead over the Twins to 1 1/2 games.

Marlins end Phillies’ win streak

The Marlins pitchers excelled with Edward Cabrera pitching into the sixth inning, and Tanner Scott ended the game with the team’s seventh shutout. Kyle Schwarber dealt with a nagging calf injury he’s been suffering with through the last few weeks. He left the game and might not make the lineup for the Phillies’ next series against the Mets.

Votto talks about his time on the field

Joey Votto and Ian Happ were both mic’d up during the game, but Votto certainly charmed viewers with his stories and reflection on facing some of the best to play the sport.

Reds rally in the seventh

Matt Reynolds puts the Reds on the board in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double.

Aquino ends the inning with a cannon throw

Aristides Aquino kept the Cubs from scoring with his deep catch and cannon arm, launching the ball to third for the out.

Cubs start off hot

The Cubs plate three in the first inning.

Injuries

Max Fried is out indefinitely with a concussion.

Joe Kelly left with lightheadedness and is questionable.

Drew Pomeranz has been added to the 60-day injury list with a right forearm injury.
