Exciting games helped some teams' struggling seasons on Sunday

Today’s Headlines

Bryce Harper Likely to Return this Week

Phillies fans should rejoice this morning, as they can expect to see their best hitter, Bryce Harper, back in the lineup. In an interview on Sunday, manager Rob Thomson said the slugger could be returning during their upcoming series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is a welcome sight for the Phillies, as they can further close the gap on the division, as the Braves and Mets have not gotten off to the hot starts some expected.

White Sox Return to the Win Column

It’s been a week for the White Sox. From their general manager taking accountability for the disappointing season, to an avid fan ranting to the local radio for 6 minutes about their losing streak, there has not been much good news coming from the south side. However, maybe fans can take solace in the White Sox’ come from behind victory on Sunday. Down 9-5 going into the ninth inning, the White Sox rallied for 7 runs in the bottom of the ninth–against MLB best, Tampa Bay Rays.

Maybe this is the momentum switch they needed?

Best Moment From Yesterday

Padres Sweep in Mexico

MLB continued to expand its audience this weekend, having the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants face off in Mexico City. The series offered much offense, as the elevation was over 2000 feet higher than notoriously hitter friendly Coors Field. The results? Lots of homers. This is likely a victory in Manfred’s attempts to grow the game, as who doesn’t love offense?

The Padres took both games, and promptly embraced the culture, celebrating with a pinata party.

Injuries & Transactions

Minnesota Twins traded RHP Trevor Megill to Milwaukee Brewers for Player To Be Named Later and cash.

Colorado Rockies placed RHP Noah Davis on the 15-day injured list. Right elbow inflammation.
