Lucas Sims’ Changeup – Sims had one of his better games of the season against the Mets yesterday, with this Changeup being a big reason why. Not only did he get plenty of ride on the pitch to earn the strikeout, but having the confidence to throw it in a full count gives us a little extra love for this pitch.
Aaron Nola’s Fastball + Curveball – Monday marked the final start of the 2017 season for Nola, and he went out with guns blazing, fanning nine Nationals hitters across six frames. His Fastball and Curveball have turned heads the entire year, and both were on display last night. First is a 95mph heater that runs back to the outside corner to Ryan Zimmerman, followed by a Curveball that never stopped dropping to Trea Turner – both pitches that we couldn’t leave off today’s roundup.
Juan Minaya’s Changeup – You may not know Minaya, but he’s locked down a good amount of saves in Chicago after their fire sale in July. This Changeup is a proper introduction as it fell off the table seal the win for the ChiSox against the Angels on Monday evening.
Yu Darvish’s Slider – Darvish does a great job of avoiding bats with his Slide piece, but also changing its speed to suit his needs. Here, he wanted to get an extra bit of sweeping action against Yangervis Solarte and it was a beauty at a 87mph.
Johnny Cueto’s Changeup – While Cueto may have induced a swing-and-miss from his fast delivery, there’s no denying this Changeup moved a ton to avoid Christian Walker’s bat in the sixth inning. Talk about leaving the zone in a hurry.
